Day 4 Going to see my Mummies

Oh no here we are at only day 4 and a calamity has happened my camera has quit working! Seriously? Dream vacation of a lifetime and no camera and out in the desert with no camera shops!
Well so that part of the day was not a banner one but the sites are. Only upshot is that pictures are not allowed in the places we are going.
We make our way to The museum of the golden mummies. The valley of the golden mummies was first discovered ...

... throughout BC by the beautiful hot spring spas we visited, because this place was a bit of a shock to see. Basically, there was this large, noisy pump that fed the spring water into this concrete square. The water temperature was perfect, but the place was kind of crusty looking. Over the last two days I've been experiencing a region of Egypt which isn't frequented by the vast majority of tourists. The tour, organised by my hostel, is of the White Desert and Bahariya Oasis. It only cost 700LE with all food, travel and accommodation included. As I'm writing this, I'm watching the sunset over the oasis after climbing to the top of a quartz and dolorite rock hill and is magnificent. I have to admit over these days I've gone a bit wild with the ...

... people off, including the student Mike had been chatting to. Got to the main street and the drop off point, the ticket guy told us 'Bahariya' so between the handful of foreigners, we figured that here was where we should get off. As soon as Mike stepped off, a guy was calling his name, this was our driver/guide Ragab. He collected our backpack and led us to an ancient Landcruiser and in we clambered. Only 2 doors so I had a bit of a struggle getting in ...

    Sand, Sand Everywhere!

We thought we were in the desert when we drove between Cairo and Alexandria, but the Egyptian portion of the Sahara Desert is a whole new level. The seemingly endless flat sand plains, broken up by the occasional dunes provide little opportunity to go to the toilet....we don't think we saw a tree for three days except at the two oases that we visited!

As well as staying in the two oases, we spent a night under the stars in the ...
