... throughout BC by the beautiful hot spring spas we visited, because this place was a bit of a shock to see. Basically, there was this large, noisy pump that fed the spring water into this concrete square. The water temperature was perfect, but the place was kind of crusty looking. At least we know the water is clean! After a Bedouin-style lunch, we got back in the jeeps to finish the drive to Bawiti near the ...

Over the last two days I've been experiencing a region of Egypt which isn't frequented by the vast majority of tourists. The tour, organised by my hostel, is of the White Desert and Bahariya Oasis. It only cost 700LE with all food, travel and accommodation included. As I'm writing this, I'm watching the sunset over the oasis after climbing to the top of a quartz and dolorite rock hill and is magnificent. Woke about 5am, too early so back to sleep till 5:45. Showered and dressed, had tea, left about 6:20am. Hardly any traffic so we got to Heliopolis in only 10-15 mins. Drove to Downtown area past the train station, had to ask for directions several times, arrived at Turgoman bust station (underneath shopping mall). Bus left at 8am, couple of foreigners on board as well as us, traffic heavy through Cairo. Stopped again and picked up lots of locals, ...

A travel blog entry by wyalvin on Jul 29, 2011

... next morning, we woke up again at 7am and had breakfast together. We travelled to the “black dessert” and the Oasis. The black dessert is covered by black rocks from the volcano thousands of years ago. The Oasis was not exactly what I thought it would be, to be honest I was quite disappointed, I thought the Oasis would be just a piece of green land in the middle of nowhere where you can see lakes and birds around it or even a rainbow just like the ones in fairy tales. When ...

... often made the moon look similar to the sun, but it's full beauty could never be truly frozen in time. I wished that if the trip was more organized we could have been driven around to more of the formations, versus only those we could to walk to in the middle of the night. There were about 15 of us altogether that slept directly under the stars that night. Mind you, not by choice, as our lovely mismanaged camping trek did not have any tents for us, ...
