Going West out of Austin you climb up to 2,000 feet through rolling scrub and live oak and rock. It was cloudy in the Colorado valley. As we climbed it got colder and darker. ... from door knocking I dropped the lid on the camper and we drove down into the Monument Valley itself. We went to sleep with the shadow of one of the monuments being close enough to block out the stars. With a 4am start, Gael was rewarded with some great sunrise photo opportunities.

Our last stop in this part of the American West was to Mesa Verde to view the ancient Indian cliff dwellings. Amazing the extent they went too to live securely from would be intruders.

Long wait in Torreon to change buses - had been invited to a party there that night with some young lads we met in Creel but decided to head on - Torreon has a really bad reputation & little to commend it!!

... Bay, and sure enough, it was closed. But we did relax at Rancho Grande, a small airstrip and road house where we could pick up some aborrotes (supplies)...here we possibly ate the best ice cream sandwiches and Coke Lights we've ever tasted!..all the while watching Mexican MTV beamed from a neighboring galaxy.
