Our journey by train had been a great success, minus the whole sleeping thing; but at least we arrived on time. We (and by we, I mean Hannah) found our next host's apartment without too much trouble. We got to talk for a few minutes before he had to leave for work. He even had keys to the apartment for both of us.
We got a bit behind schedule for the day, as we both decided a nap would be necessary before braving the city of Oslo and ...
... highlights were the living roofs, the 2 story outhouse and the history of the Wine Monopoly in Norway. Tea-totalers in the 1850's decided that Norway was a nation of drunkards and alcohol should thus be regulated. So in truly ironic fashion the government became the sole profiteer of alcoholic beverages…which still continues today-you go to a wine monopoly ...
... is a port where the Hop on Hop off (hoho) buses come right to the cruise terminal. So once again we were flying solo. We duly paid our money and hopped on. The buses have free wifi so I took the opportunity to publish a couple of blog episodes and attach the photos.
Meanwhile we were seeing the streets and sights of Oslo in a completely different light to when we were last there – glimpses of sunshine rather than snow and lots and lots ...
... made it to Oslo. We took a quick break and ate the hot dogs I packed. We then headed for our apartment which was about a 30 minute walk. We got there and couldn't figure out how to get in or make contact with the person we were staying with! We finally got a hold of her around 4. We took a nap which ended up taking a few hours. We have now been to Denmark and Sweden. Along the way we have met so many nice people. It is a little bitter sweet to leave. Today we are going to Norway! I didn't want to admit it but this is the place that I have been most looking forward too. I imagine that everything is bigger there. The mountains, the rivers and the people will tower over me.
