What Rockers Do, The Morning After.

... were lining up their double mattress a few metres from shore, then running down the beach and leaping onto it, sometimes full body and sometimes trying to stand up and surf on it. In either case, they invariably ended up doing synchronised belly-flops into the lake, as the lilo shot sideways. We were crying with laughter at them.

So, Saskia made a sandcastle and we all had a swim in the lake. The Rockers slowly packed up their tents and dripping bedding and we got the little beach ...

Serendipity

... me. They asked again if I had anywhere to spend the night, and suggested the hotel in the centre of town. Naturally, I turned this down, as the cost for six of us is not even worth enquiring about. I made noises about finding one of the wooden huts that seem to be dotted about for hire. The Lithuanian couple started accosting passers-by, asking them about the local accommodation.

... So other places had nothing on Visaginas in that sense. I just wanted to say that such objects don't move me. Problem with Visaginas, though, was that it was the best it could offer. For the rest, at least in my view, was even less imaginative. And yet, nice and sunny morning made up for lots of other things and I had to admit that now even Visaginas looked better than I had thought for most of the time I would remember it.

... all the rest of us who were, let's say, less than fluent in that particular language soon divided our attention, devoting its ever increasing portion to other things. For the most of those present it meant food. With a few minor qualms at the beginning that, the way I saw it, were an initial nod to politeness, it all soon turned into a free-for-all where the name of the game was to grab as much as you can as soon as you can, for if you don't, or if you blink, someone ...

... hungry, they could only go to the supermarket. Or take it like that until lunch. They decided to bear it, for they didn't quite feel like going to supermarket. I suppose eleven thirty was still too early for them for any hastier effort. Besides, Sasha was already there. It was his task to get us to the stadium. And on time, at that. Sure, we already knew the way, and also knew that even on foot it was not too far. But this was official and therefore had to be ...

... t sleep here." The complaint was directed at me, like I was the one who had chosen the accommodation. "So what will you do?" I asked. "I have no idea. Tell them I want another room. I had to wait for half an hour for the hot water to start flowing!" So it turned out there was hot water after all. Only, installations took half an hour to wake up. Besides, Sandra and Marin had two proper beds in their room, unlike Robi and me. And yet, Sandra complained. Robi and I didn't. It was not ...

... that might have been the best way anyway, but I nevertheless considered it prudent to ask the driver. As I have already indicated, the guy didn't know a single English word, but there are situations when you understand what you are told even if you don't understand the language. It was like that now. And what really mattered was that, by the looks of it, I was right. We pulled over at the first intersection with a pointer, amidst some woods, and started studying the map. Outside ...
