Historical Traveler Reviews Edgewood Resort Alexandria Bay
Edgeword Resort was Great
We went to the Edgewood on the weekend of 9/19-920. The place was just lovely. They have beautiful grounds. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We checked out other places we had considered before we went to Edgewood and the ones in the village like Bonnie Castle and Captaim Thompson's were very congested and busy and seemed rather seedy compared to Edgewood. We were looking for a quiet lovely resort and we found it and we could wander the Village streets with a two minutes drive or a ten minute walk.
A real Jewel in Alex Bay!
The Edgewood Resort reminded me of walking into a Disney property.
Tastefully detailed "outdoorsy" decor, impecably clean (in spite of an addition to the convention center area being constructed), and comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful in every way possible. The Firemen's Association of the State of New York needed to relocate to Alex Bay and ended up headquartered at the Edgewood. The service that this establishment gave all members of the organization was exceptional... even if they did not stay at that location! Management mingled annonimously to be sure everything was OK, and if even the smallest issue came up, it was dealt with quickly and efficiently. This is place was great!
Great grounds and staff
The Edgewood is a perfect place for those that dont want to be in the congested area of the center of Alexandria bay.(you can still walk to town)The hotel overloks the river and the Alexandria municipal docks and pier. Plenty of parking for those who may have tag along boats etc. Staff very helpful, rates are competitive and the rooms are great. I'll be back.
EDGEWOOD RESORT SAVED OUR VACTION
My wife & I and another couple had planned a Thousand Island vacation by renting a houseboat & cruising the St. Lawrence. Those plans turned into a major disaster when we arrived to pick up our boat. Not only was it in terrible condition it wasn't running. Its not easly to find a place to sleep @ 9 PM on a Saturday night. The next day (Sun.8/3) we finally started our vacation by checking into the Edgewood Resort. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are spacious & clean!! We were able to get ajoining rooms with a beautiful view of the harbor & river. A vacation which started off on the wrong foot has become a wonderful memory. We will be back!!!
Loved the location
Our stay was for two days. The lord blessed us with two warn days and of course the hotel rooms were very clean, the view was out of this world and the staff was great. The rooms were clean and pick up between days. The cost of the rooms are up there but went you look at the prices at the River Edge hotel and were the River Edge is located I tell you Who would want to trade the location of pine trees for a concrete jungle with boat exhaust ? I just wonder. A special thanks should go out to JILL at the front desk. I had asked for good rooms and on ground level also if we could get into the rooms at noon time. Due to my son recovering from a grave illness I wanted to make this a good time for him and his family. So Jill thanks again for making this a wonderful stay for my family and to the Edgewood owners. Great hotel, great food, great staff and a great location. To the owners please do not get over your heads and end up with a place like the river edge.
Keep your place up and expand as you can keeping each unit as beautiful as the others. Thanks again if our health stays we will be back. Alan Codd and Family.
A great place to stay
The event that brought us to New York was a family reunion. We thought-- wouldn't it be nice to to stay at a place that we could call home for a few days that would be comfortable, clean and pleasant. Our thoughts became reality with our stay at Edgewater. Management and staff went out of their way to make our stay a most memorable experience. We had a room with a balcony that overlooked the St.
Lawrence River--the view was fantastic with Boldt Castle in sight. Much fun and enjoyment was had by all. Thank you staff and management of Edgewood. We'll be back.
STAY SOMEWERE ELSE!!
dont waste your money!. This place is a dump !! bad food, bugs in the room and very expensive ! this is no place to spend your vacation!!!!!
stayed at edgewood 2x its located on a beautiful
piece of the land---right on the st, lawrence... the
prices are a little high .. but i did notice this past
summer that it wasn't as well kept as it was 3 years ago
We stayed at the Edgewood for four days in early October. We had a room with a private balcony overlooking the water with a lovely view for $119 per night. There was a restaurant at the resort and extensive grounds. The resort was recently purchased by new owners and there is to be upgrades to the pool area and several other new changes. This is a great area away from the noisy marina in Alexandria Bay where many other accommodations were located, but still close enough to the shops and restaurants. There was no coffee maker or clock in the room, which was rather unexpected. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this resort
Best Place Ever!
This is a real family destination- I have 4 kids and we were looking for value as well as a nice clean place to stay. The Edgewood is right on the water...on it! Our balcony is over top of the river and we saw the ships go by so close we could touch them! We paid $139 per night for 2 rooms and the food was excellent! We will definitely plan our vacation next summer for The Edgewood!

Kingston Penitentiary closed in 2013 and the inmates were relocated to other institutions. I have no idea if the conditions there are now any better.

We then went to the dock and boarded a sternwheeler for a 3 hour cruise through the 1000 islands. That is their name but there are actually 1800 islands and they all have summer "cottages" if you can call them that. Many are very grandiose, up to 7500 sq. ft. More like mini castles than cottages. Once one is owned it stays in the family for generations and is rarely sold. It was thoroughly relaxing and we just sat back and enjoyed the ...
... for 4 hours though (including walking tour) really tired us out so we were happy to return home for a relaxed evening of fresh green beans, homemade pesto thanks to Toni, our host in Sandpoint, and Masa Rice. Yum. Sometimes I miss our annual summer feasts from bounty from our garden back in California. The trade off is these incredible experiences of the journey. ... Joanne and I headed off to Golden Lake Camp around 11:30 am in the morning. It takes approximately 3 hours to get to the camp from our house.
The drive to camp went smoothly.. no problems at all. The weather was nice and sunny... too bad it did not stay that way for the rest of our time in this area. Oh well, you make the best of the situation you are dealt...
Today we saw the Thousand Islands. They are a group of islands in the St Lawrence River between New York and Ontario. Many of the islands have houses on them - but instead of garages, they have boathouses! We even saw one island with a house connected by a bridge to another with a boathouse. It's 200 miles to Niagara Falls from here. Bye for now! ...
