Beautiful views of Lake Wanaka. Comfortable, apartment style hotel rooms complete with kitchen, lounge and bedroom. On the first floor, we walked out to manicured lawns and a perfect view of the Lake. The restaurant on site is fabulous. One mile from town along the lakeside path.

Lovely first floor suite with views across the lake and mountains. Dinner in the restaurant was lamb (for Karen) and steak for me, accompanied by very nice couple of reds (Merlot for Karen, Pinot Noir for me). Jess, our waitress was great and very chatty.

The view from our room is stunning however the only view Chris had last night was a circle of white porcelain. He's picked up a healthy dose of food poisoning and hugged the toilet bowl for most of the night in between uncontrollable cold shivers and aches and pains. Rest was the order of the day for him. I walked the twenty minute track to town, …

Today was probably our second RDO day in our trip. They probably translate to our chance to be in a place more than 24 hours with no long drives. That doesn't mean we sit back and take it easy..... After a relaxing start to the day and simple in house breakfast, the boys went to do a little 'put put' while they waited for the girls (us) to finish …

Very sad to be departing such a beautiful spot but the car was lonely and needed some attention. Loaded up our first stop was the neighbouring Glacier township that we saw by air yesterday - Fox Glacier. We had a short look at the Glacier (but not as good Franz Joseph) before heading along the West Coast. Weather is overcast today. We drove another …

... lookout, she has found (or been found by) an American couple on their road bikes. They were really nice to talk to and we really lost track of time. Our lunch spot was supposed to be Lake Hawea town for around 12:00 o'clock. Just as we are about to grab some photos from the lookout, we meet a Danish couple. They are interested in our journey and our bikes then as they talk about Denmark, Dave starts thinking of the next after next (or so) ride. Focus Dave, ...

... a place called Te Anau which is close to Milford sound. We stayed at a caravan park right by the lake it was really nice. The only horrible thing was that it had started to rain and would continue until we left. Thank god the amenities were indoors and they also had a tv with some great movies on. It helped to pass those last few hours before we had to run out into the rain and climb into the tent. Rain or shine we were headed off to Milford sound in the morning. ...
