Let me be honest with you all this isn't about any great adventure i've had or even will had but perhaps may very well have a trip to the desert land of senegal. Jamaica Mon!

Jamaica was my very first missions trip. I went with Shayna and Chad for one week and we had an amazing and eye opening experience. The water was beautiful and we went to ocho rios and climbed the waterfal too-it was so beautiful! We also witnessed poverty and need in ways that we had never seen before. We were able to minister God's love to people but honestly I think we all took away much more from this experience than we could ever give!

The minister was really hard to understand but he talked about hellshire being damned b/c not enough people there believing in jesus. sooo 3 hours later when church ended i was ready to relax. Most of the voleenters didnt go to church and went to the beach. So all of us from the church went to go meet them and got there just as they were leaving. Also before ...

Just landed... Welcome mat

I got a ride from the airport to the upper town. After check in, I ventured in the city and was soon offered some "stuff". Oh well, no thank you. The Bob Marley museum is quite interesting and probably the only notable attraction in Kingston (other than this feeling of being in a different country).

... properly (as 70% of each our country's dollars goes towards our international debt), but we're going to use the materials we've got, and pull together the labour force needed to slap that band-aid on." At the end of each day, as Tings and Red Stripes are popped open amidst tired construction crews, clouds are gathering for another storm. "Wagwan?" Someone may say. This is life in Jamaica. I work in international development. We should exchange information." Two weeks ago, after picking up a birthday package at the post office (and enduring a $45US fee from the customs department), I crossed the street in front of the building, only to have a truck screech to a ...

Four Days in Kingston...

... I was all smiles.  But, I have gotten ahead of myself.  ;)   First, orientation in Atlanta was both inspiring and challenging.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Beyond fieldtrips to the Carter Center and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, 40 hours were spent in the classroom writing essays, discussing ethnorelativism and international relief work, meeting program directors and teachers (from both England and Jamaica in person or via video-conference), and preparing for the ...

Marley and Mountains

... our guesthouse is Valerie, a Jamaican woman who used to be a fashion designer. In 1984, she semi-retired, bought the Mikuzi (Jamaican patois for "me cozy") and never looked back. The guesthouse rooms are helter skelter in beautiful gardens; the buildings are a riot of colour and each guest room is uniquely decorated - obviously with a designer's eye. A Rotweiller named Ginger guards the premises; Valerie jokes that the dog is prejudice because she'll ...

day five

Painted a classroom PINK today. After our project was finished, we went to a Mustard Seed meeting. Every 5 years they gather to go over accomplishments and goals. It is amazing how much the organization has grown since its beginning. They now have an adoption/ sponsor program for some of the children which ensures that they receive the food and medicine they need. Then we ate curried goat. Good day.
