Wow - what beaches!!

... went in and they sat us down at a table and started bringing out platters of food. They never asked us what we wanted and they spoke no English. They brought out roasted snails, grilled vegetables, cured ham and sausages, flat bread, cheeses, fresh tomatoes, and then roasted pork and stewed lamb- oh I forgot the bowl of ravioli and the bowl of risotto they served us as well. YUM! We have had a great time in Sardinia and ready to head to Milan, Italy ...

Olbia/Porto Cervo (Sardinia), Italy

Olbia, Italy Information by Rough Guides Awash with traffic and ugly apartment blocks, OLBIA is the least Sardinian of all the island's towns. Its port and airport, however, make it an inevitable stop for some and its numerous bars and restaurants are generally crowded with tourists, sailors from the port and US service personnel from the nearby NATO bases. If you're stuck for an afternoon here, you might as well visit the town's only item of ...

Bon Voyage to the Sutherlands

Well this is our third time in Olbia so we know the routine and tie up next to the town jetty. We arrive in time to have a quick final meal out with the Sutherlands before we bid them farewell and they begin their long journey home. We see them onto their feryy, which will take them across to Rome, where they will fly to Bangkok for a ...

Off to Olbia

After our whirlwind tour of Europe with the Sutho's we were ready for our next adventure. The Sutherlands, with some trepidation set sail with us out of Rome bound for Olbia, Sardinia. The forcast was a little controversial but Captain Pete, aware that time was limited for the Sutho's to see Sardinia and Corsica, decided now was the best window before the nasty weather hit in a day or so. We headed West into a setting sun and had a lovely meal. This ...

Olbia

We arrived in Olbia and found our way down the narrow shipping chanel dodging the massive pssenger ferries. This is a major port where ferries take people and cargo across to Rome. There is a free stone jetty where yachties can tie up. This is right near town and very convenient. We spent 2 night here and explored the town. Quite a nice little town with main ...

the last day.............

well, after 7 days of touring the south, west and north of the island, it is finally time to head to the airport. With constant 25 degree plus temps and all-day sunshine, we have inadvertently acquired tans that match our preferred clothing choices - although for some reason despite wearing shorts every day our legs are mysteriously unaffected. Costa Smerelda is stunningly beautiful and one of the few places wear the postcard blue of the beach shots has ...

4. Stop Oliena

I found Paradise, and it's called Sardinia!!

... Tuesday, when it looked like it would be sunny the whole day. So Monday, I did a hike along the Sardinian coast to several of the remote beaches that stretch south from Cala Gonone. And we are talking REMOTE!! These beaches are only reachable by boat or by hike...there are no roads anywhere near them. It was awesome! I hiked for a few hours to get to the southern most beach Cala Luna, and spent some time there basking in the sun. Then I hiked ...

Shame! I killed a living, sentient being today.

... it. It's time for some action - time for Rome! Would I go back to Sardinia? Maybe one day if I happened to be in the area again, but I would not return just for Sardinia. I ran into "Sardinia" guy and his wife at the bus station. I saw him on the ferry to Cagliari, met him in the hostel in Bosa, and saw him walking around in Alghero as I passed by on a bus. They might stay in Santa Teresa or catch a ferry to Corsica. Originally, I wanted to go to Corsica but I didn ...
