A gem still to be explored another day.

Another early start for the 40nm passage to Elba. After the last 2 days the sea was as smooth as velvet to begin and with only a slight increase later we happily motorsailed all the way in calm waters. I even stayed below and had an extra sleep on the couch before Steve cooked Sunday breakfast! It was a lovely day, chilly breeze, ...

... point it is 8pm and it's now dark, and getting cold. We found the board that would tell us when the next train was, but lucky us we missed the last one. My iphone had 7% battery, which was enough for us to find out we needed to either go to Genova or Parma. The next train was Parma so we hopped on that. ... do they deconsecrate a church? Drain the holy water? Bury the relics? Vacuum?) Lucca is the birthplace of Puccini, and he was baptized in this used-to-be church. By day, one can view the fascinating archeological works dug underneath the church floor and baptistry, which go back to the Roman period (yes, the first century!). In the evening, the space is used for an opera concert for the tourists (Puccini and Mozart war horses all in one hour ). Note ...

... nice and we had a sea view and everything. After being up for 20 hours you can imagine how hard I slept. When we woke in the morning, we went downstairs and had breakfast by the sea. An American that worked at the hotel came over and found us after hearing there were Americans staying there (the Tuscan Archipelago is more of an Italian tourist area rather than American). He gave us so many tips on what to do in Elba. After breakfast we packed up our things and ...
