Genoa to Monterossa in Cinqe Terre 18 deg

A travel blog entry by kenb on Nov 06, 2014

... Surfers out but not much to catch. Train trip 2 1/2 hrs 6.90€ but only 75km. Milk run. Everything seemed closed an Monterossa- season over. Walked around and saw a sign i recognised from Lonely Planet which turned out to be a letting agency. Took me to block of units- 3 storey with 4 units per level and each unit seems split into 5 separate rooms each with ensuites. Would be noisy and crowded in season but only saw one other person. ...

... under repair. No accom booked and not good weather to go looking...frustrating. Don't know if I want to do this type of travel. Noticed hotel Grand Savoia on hill above station. A recommended hotel but a bit expensive gut it's raining and I need a room. Pleasant girl on reception- room for €105 which is ok. More upmarket than places I have been - plush. Relief Got tourist map and wandered town. A dozen palaces built in 1500s for ...

The views from the top were magnificent and we had lunch up there at a cafe before descending and continuing our stroll back to the ship for the obligatory drinks and snack on the pool deck Genoa is a city we could definitely return to and would be a good place to stay prior to cruising somewhere. Something to keep in mind. We sailed from Genoa about 6 pm and were due in to ...

Finally in this beautiful place, destined to become the one place we will come back to, unquestionably. Situated 20 mins from Portifino (easy to get to by ferry or bus, or if like us...walking) Santa Marg has everything....unbelievable views, good transport, great restaurants (well, we actually went to the same place each night....but we passed hundreds of others!) and quiet, really quiet, for such a big place. First port of call is Portifono. When they describe ...

... The view from our balcony does not look too promising weather wise as we dock, overcast skies, rain threatening. We make our way to breakfast in Waterside Restaurant and during which various couples join us at our table. One such couple we start talking to from Elwick and the conversation flows freely over our morning coffee until breakfast becomes morning tea then the rain starts beating against the windows and before long Morning tea has become lunch and we now have "New Best ...
