... and mostly covered in mist. The GFC or Economic conditions must have hit Italy hard because there were hundreds of single and apartment buildings not completed, hollow or boarded up, very sad. We stopped at a garage and went in with our two heads, as that is what everyone must have been staring at as we walked in, that and our French number plates, anyway got two coffees an Americano, (long black) and a Cappuccino for €1.80 bargain. Last day in Puglia and it did not disappoint. We had a lazier start and then skyped the harveys. Josy and Chris – you did not respond? Tomorrow is a travel day so we may not get round to this for a while. Then after Orvieto we are going to Ambra – free accommodation and no wifi so you may not hear as much from us then. The drive was lovely even with the rain, and along the way we saw many very old olive trees with very thick trunks. After parking we ...

... permitted. In fact it turned out to be free!!! Eventually we had a nice lunch at a Michelin listed restaurant called Trullo D’Oro. Nice ravioli and veal escallops. Yes we are trying to cut down. Another highlight was face timing Olivia as everyone was at Matthew’s place for Nana’s birthday. Wish we could also be there. Lovely during day but it is cooling down again now.

It was great to wake to blue skies this morning. The road from Matera south was tremendous for 46 kilometers to Metaponto at the sea. Then the problem. We had thought we would continue south along the coast through Calabria to the toe of the boot, but the coast road turned out to be a restricted access highway with no bikes allowed. We did the obvious thing, we went into the only store and had the helpful shopkeeper make us delicious ...
