Historical Traveler Reviews of Eden Club Monastir
Sehr empfehlenswert
from evo2
Lovely holiday
from delph0508
we just returned from Eden Club and we had a great time although we were all expecting the worst after reading the reviews. the staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel is in need of renovation but was always clean, the food was nice and it would be different everyday.
We would definately recommend this hotel, we were looking for a cheap relaxing holiday and this is exactly what we got.
Beach is lovely

We have just returned from the eden club skanes, and we did enjoy ourselves. The hotel is not dirty as some reviews said, it is very clean the hotel staff are friendly and the anamation team where fantastic (pitty, the hotel owner could make the hotel realy great if only he spent his money on A LOT OF NEW EQUIPMENT). We where only there a week and the food was different everyday except breakfast. This was a cheap holiday so don't expect the ritz, expect what you pay for. Would recomend the 2 day excursion which dose a tour of tunisia taking in sights such as el jib and matmata (for starwars fans),and the trip into the sahara desert was great and we stayed at a hotel at the edge of the desert for 1 night whilst on this trip all for about £42 each. Overall it was a very good cheap holiday and would go back.

from travelhopefulBristol
Not for winter holiday
from travelhopefulBristol
After reading the reviews, we went here over Christmas expecting a terrible time. We had an OK time, but it is not a winter destination, only half the hotels were open and there was nothing within walking distance. In summer, the beach and pool would probably be all you need. It was pretty chilly over Christmas and with 2 days of rain it was boring, we read a lot of books. None of the advertised activities were available, except the heated pool which was reached through a building site! It is tired, the rooms need redecorating, but everything was clean and the staff tried their best to give us a good time. Food was very average. My advice is not to try every dish on the first day - you get the same every day, so for variety save some for tomorrow! We got what we paid for, if you want luxury you need to pay a lot more to be abroad over Christmas.

We liked it!

We have just returned from the Eden Club Resort after a great two-week holiday. After reading some of the reviews on sites like this we did wonder where we were going to, but after our first day and as we found our way around the holiday just got better and better.
The hotel was clean and the staff worked had to keep it that way. Our room was basic, very clean, there was plenty of room to store clothes, we asked for extra pillows and hangers which arrived soon after. The only thing I missed was a hairdryer as I forget to pack my own.
The Restaurant seemed very chaotic at first but once you got used to the routine, its fine. There are self service signs displayed around the restaurant and sometimes it means just that even down to setting your own table. Chatting to the waiters and a tip of a few dinars will get you a nice table laid with flowers and better service. The choice of food was limited, sometimes the food could have been hotter but we always found something to eat.
During our stay the hotel was busy there are a lot of European guests who sometimes can appear to be rude, at the time of our stay there were only four English guests, ourselves and another couple, so we were a minority, although we used this to our advantage not having to have too many of those 'holiday conversations'!!!!
The staff were friendly and helpful with only one or two who were a bit surly, during our stay a mosquito, to which I have a reaction, bit me. I had to see the Doctor, which the reception staff arranged for me, they had an excellent service to get my medication and I was soon well again.
The hotel does seem a little bit tired and could do with sprucing up in some areas, but the facilities are very good, the pools were clean, there was entertainment if you wanted it throughout the day. We noticed that there were diving lessons in the pool, one day we even went to the Archery. There is an Aqua Park with slides and water chutes within the complex. On the beach there were plenty of sun beds, you didn't have to get up in the middle of the night to reserve one, there were pedaloes, canoes, banana rides and paragliding, which you had to pay extra for but were good value for money, there was even a lad who kept the beach sellers at bay. Don't forget to take beach towels, as they are not included in the all-inclusive.
All in all we had a great time, if you are looking for waiter service, A La Carte or branded spirits don't bother going to the Eden Club. This was our second holiday, the hotel is no worse that other places we have been to around the world, we just wanted a good value for money holiday with lots of sunshine and that's just what we got.
Don't Go Here!
from LouiseMartin
Having been to Tunisia before I can honestly say this is the dirtiest hotel I have ever had the misfortune to step foot in. The sheets and towels are grey the rooms are bog standard. We changed rooms 4 times and were put in what they described as their best room which had a cracked sink with no plug and a disfunctional shower. The food was appauling and had flies on it, I must have lost half a stone in the week. We were supposed to be staying for two weeks but paid to go to another hotel after numerous phone calls and attempts to get flights home. I think the last straw was seeing a Russian woman hold her 4 year old over a flower bed 100 metres from the toilets and let it defecate.
The only drinks free to all inclusive guests were beer, wine and soft drinks, you could have spirits if you paid for them and the drinks in the bar at the onsite water park you had to pay for. The last orders was 11pm but you could have drinks after that if you paid. The "entertainment" was done in German and was very amateur. None of the staff had a smile or a greeting for anybody. So take my advice and steer well clear of this one!
Flies, Germans and Cigarettes.....
from needabreak99
If you speak English, don't smoke, don't have children and have tastebuds, please think twice before going to Eden Club in Skanes!
Had to take a cab to the hotel from the airport as no English package holidays companies deal with the hotel, so no transfers. Booked in relatively quickly, but as soon as we entered the lobby, a fog of ciggarette smoke smacked you in the face. Got worried when when the sounds of agga-do and the birdie song assaulted my ears.
Room was tiny, which normally doesn't bother me - how much time do you spend in your room on holiday? On this one, quite alot. The room, and most of the hotel desperately needed rennovation. The room was just generally grotty. Wondered what the sticky stain around the toilet was. Did not want a hangover in that bathroom!
The next day we discovered that we were the only British party in the hotel and were surrounded by Germans, French and Russians. This was discovered (hate to stereotype) by the fact that after 7am all pool loungers had been reserved. Beach it was! Two can play at that game. Make sure you do the same.
Breakfast was an experience. Flies and more flies constantly aggravate you and land on your food and skin. THERE IS NO NO SMOKING AREA IN THE RESTAURANT. It was disgusting. Everyone was smoking, even sitting outside didn't help.
The dining room was best described as a mess hall. Mass brawls erupted if you took the last croissant and made them wait for a new fresh tray. People were obnoxious with no idea of personal space. If I wanted a cuddle whilst choosing my food I'd ask.
The food was disgusting anyway but there is no choice but to eat it. Everything is smothered in oil, cooked to mush like your mum's veggies and taste exactly like everything else. The same food each day were brought out and recycled for the next meal. It was procuded for quantity, not taste, and nothing needed chewing. Breakfast was croissants like bricks, processed beef ham, processed cheese, salad, more unknown dairy products, and the most undercooked eggs. Lunch was spag bol, mushy salty potatoes, salad, beef stew, and something from the grill - turkey, fish, fish, turkey etc. Dinner was exactly the same as lunch, with pizza for the kids. I resent saying this, but the best food I had all week was chips on the penultimate day. I've didn;t eat excessively, couldn't face it, but have put on weight from all the fat and processed carbs. Constantly felt bunged up downstairs and hugely bloated. Only had couscous once in the week.
The 'all inclusve' drinks were horrible. Wine, beer, fizzy drinks, coffee etc, and glasses of water. Yes, you had to pay for a bottle of water unless you were willing to traipse from the beach everytime you wanted a drink. Got my hands slapped a couple of times for filling up my bottle from the water dispenser.
Spent most of the time at the beach which was ok. A fair bit of litter in the sand, even though there are bins everywhere. Water was lovely and warm, relatively clear, bit of a current. Hawkers weren't as bad as the hotel staff, who wouldn't take no for answer. No I do not want to do aerobics in front of a crowded pool.
Left the hotel to go to Sousse on Wednesday which was ok. The only decent bit is the government shop which sells generally tourist tat. Monastir market on Saturday, which my blonde friend hated as she was constantly touched and pull around by the locals. You have to be stern, say no and walk away. Don't make eye contact.
By the end of the holiday, I hated all people, their children, their smoking, their complete lack of thought for other people and for generally being completed oblivious to others around them.
This hotel is not worth the money. Pay a little bit more and go 4 star. If you are from the UK, please think twice. You will be ostracised by the other guests. Staff were generally helpful and friendly, and seemed to like practising their English. Eden Club is a English 1960's holiday camp with nicer weather.
Need another holiday to recover. It will never be at Eden Club.
