... dost velký bordel a kostely už nás bohužel zas tak moc nezajímaly. Proto jsme po zhlédnutí sochy Sv. Jiřího na hlavním, slušně velkém náměstí odtáhli hledat místo, kde by se dalo pojíst i posedět.<br> Po pár desítkách minut bloudění skrz liduprázdný park se zavřenou restaurací a nefunkčními stánky (kabinky byly přímo na nábřeží, několik cm od řeky) a ...
Tbilisi, Georgia mandelbrot... the streets, sidewalks and buildings in the capital are in better shape. As our guidebook says, the best part is people watching; there is an amazing variety of faces and skin colors here, and it's just fun to sit in an outdoor cafe and watch people. The people here are into dressing, strolling at a leisurly pace (totally unlike their driving; anyone that comes here should be forewarned to REALLY watch closely when crossing ...
Tbilisi, Georgia cathleenallen... sunrise our driver is back again and we go through the city to the hill with the old fort and Mother-Georgia monument to take a look at the city from the top. Nice view! We have no big interest in the greyish city of Tbilisi, so we ask our Georgian friends to take us to Mtskheta, former capital of Georgia (actually one of the former capitals, they have changed them many times), place of the junction of Aragvi and Kura (Mtkvari ...
Tbilisi, Georgia palidosim... Luckily, there were enough angry people from my Almaty flight that they held the Georgian plane for us. Trying to get through passport control, I had to spend 30 minutes arguing with the woman that no, I don't need a visa for travel to Georgia. After pleading and yelling, I finally got through with a, "If you get into visa trouble in Georgia, don't tell them it was me who let you through." Arg. I got to Tbilisi around 2:30 am and to my ...
Tbilisi, Georgia mvmcwhir... temporary bridges, new highway is being built and plundered military base being torn down... I actually rather regret not going to Gori itself since it could be really interesting and I have met two tourists who had succesfully done it. The bus climbs gradually from the plains between the two main Caucausus ranges towards the Lesser one, passing through mineral water town of Borjomi. Four hours after departure and a few years before end of the Soviet union, we find ourselves in ...
Tbilisi, Georgia mys... pedassos, oblits, ferides en carn viva i cicatrius vivents.
Tibilisi, Georgia leiks... at Mtskheta, from the 11th century, a really impressive tall structure, with proportions much like Gothic, but more massive. Photo inside, particularly the not-so-round dome, and columned openings in internal walls. Lot of marble plaques on the floor with carving and inscription, presumably tombs, frescoes on the walls, lots of candles and devout worshippers. Outside, photos of the structure, with a hilltop monastery or ...
Tbilisi, Georgia diannemurray... to run fast until we get to Marjanishvili metro station. We caught the metro, and ran towards the parking lot of the marshrutkas in Didube. A kind local man came to me, offering his help. "Borjomi," I said. He took us to the platform where the marshrutkas that goes to Borjomi are. I have no idea how did everyone knows everything - there are no signs (only on the front of the vehicles) and nothing that might lead you. The locals just know. When he introduced us in front of ...
Tbilisi, Georgia gsella... they look like they are in the middle of a small dark village. Not many buildings seen in Tbilisi at night. The lighthouse looks like an electric pole, painted in orange and white, that lights the whole night long. Until today I couldn't find its destiny, but I will be honest enough to tell you it wasn't really important to me. Marjanishvili street, the main street next to Irina's guesthouse, is a tumultuous busy street during daylight, and a dark road ...
