Traveling from Chamonix to Lake Annecy we went through some breathtaking views through the Alps. The city is quite gorgeous, a favorite Lakeside destination for French families in summer. After a walk through 'Little Venice' taking the sights of a town voted the most beautiful in France, i had a lovely lunch of the local (from Nice) Niçoise salad in a central location before taking the one hour boat trip on the lake. We saw the ...

... some pain, the first pain aux raisins of the tour and some tea. It was so hot on the terrace, such a contrast from our previous descent.

We reached our stop for the night, La Maison de Joséphine, by about 1:30pm. Unfortunately it was a 10 minute climb up from Guillestre, one which we repeated sans panniers when we went to search for a restaurant. There was a small market in the centre of town (Wednesday) where we bought some home made lasagne for supper. Other ...

... A few cyclists passed us on the way to the top. It's a fairly constant 7% for the whole 12 km. At the top of every col so far there has been someone who has offered to take a photo for us, Col du Télégraphe was no exception.

We donned an extra layer and enjoyed a smooth ride down to Valloire, where we found a patisserie that would easily accommodate our bike without a lot of faffing around, and offered some outside tables in the sun.

    I had a slice of ...

The last night in Lyon we spent with the mother/ Pia, of a French girl, Chloe, who stayed with us recently. We dined in a tiny traditional bouchon that she had sought out. Her son and girlfriend joined in the fun - especially called on for their good English; Mireille was in her element conversing with the mother in French. The meal of many dishes was sensational and we were humbled by Pia insisting on paying for us all. We left there in heavy rain which made a comical ...
