... to look the name up later.) It was pouring down with rain when we arrived, but the place still looked gorgeous; a beautiful little village on the edge of a fjord with extremely steep sides. The houses looked like lego houses, so neat and tidy. We found a great bistro to eat in and spent several hours there. The staff were so friendly, Lucy and Daniel played up stairs with a paper aeroplane whilst we used the internet ...

We continued on our way east along the Ring Road with a detour to Dettifoss - the most powerful in Europe. There are two roads to the falls and one is for 4 wheel drive only so we took the east road which was washboarded, bumpy and dusty...but we got there. This waterfall is on the second largest river in Iceland and flows from the Vatnajökull icecap ...

... after Goethe), the architect who designed Hitler's "Eagle's Nest" also built this home along the same lines. Our hotel this evening serves as a school dormitory during the winter months, and a hotel in the summer tourist season. It is compact and clean, but no televisions or phones in the rooms. It will be my duty to issue the wake-up knocks in the morning so we can keep moving around this amazing country. Hugs, Dan
Egilsstadir, Iceland wareameye... to Iceland and built this house. He later donated the house to Iceland and it is preserved as a cultural center. Turns out that there is also a monastery excavation site from the 1100's, if I recall, a few hundred yards away from the building, so that was absorbed also. We had lunch in the house, which included reindeer. It was ok, not too gamey. Otherwise the food was wonderful. On the ride back to Seydisfjordur, we saw three reindeer... Maybe I felt ...
Seydisfjordur, Iceland poleary6This morning I took the bus to Egilsstaðir to wait for a day until I can take the bus to Skaftafell. There really isn´t much going on here. It´s claim to fame is that it´s a transportation hub. Not very exciting....just industrial and boring. The only for of entertainment was this little museum, but it was closed on Saturdays! oh well ...
Egilsstadir, Iceland elizallenThe trip started by meeting our travel companions for the night. We met at 5pm at a gas station at the edge of the town of Egilsstaðir. From there we drove to Möðrudalur in the north. From there we went by a mountain road toward Kverkfjöll. With me in the car (Toyota Hilux 38") was Ingþór, driver, and Inga Sóley. With us where two other cars: Nissan ...
Egilsstadir, Iceland budyrid... sat alongside a fjord lake, skimming stones and enjoying the sunshine. As we headed up into the fjords, we started seeing more trees...birch forests. The trees are bent, twisted and short--they have to try really hard to grow in such harsh conditions. We also got into some THICK, dense fog as we twisted and turned up the narrow cliff-side roads...YELLOW roads I should add. Bumpy, graveled, washed out, fog so thick you can't see beyond 5 feet in front of you and the ...
