    ... the mighty Mississippi River.

Along the way we made a detour at Olmsted to see where they are building a new lock which will replace locks 52 (at Paducah) and 53 at Olmsted. It is a massive project which will enable the Ohio to be navigable all year round even in the dry summer.

At Cairo, we crossed the Mississippi into Missouri. A very utilitarian bridge quite narrow with a sharp bend at the end as the road stays on the top of the levee bank. Luckily it is ...

... While in the actual cave I was treated to a song by a man who wrote it due to his father's death. Well sung with lyrics appropriate for a riverside setting, it was quite touching. Tomorrow we turn northeast to follow the Ohio River valley for awhile. Should be interesting and also avoids some areas of Kentucky with reports of difficult riding " like Missouri onlyba lot more dogs". Poor connectivity here so I will have to send pictures separately ...

Today we cycled 72 miles in rolling hills to a tiny town on the Ohio River. We were accommodated in two old, historic homes overlooking the River. The homes are run as bed and breakfast stops so we enjoyed an intimate atmosphere. That evening one of our group who has a home in the area had friends treat us to a catfish BBQ in a pavilion overlooking the ...
