One of the newer National Parks is near Columbia and we decided to drive on over. Congaree National Park became a NP in 2003. There is a Visitor Center, primitive camping and a number of trails. We tried a walk on the elevated boardwalk but were turned back by rain. I had an umbrella, but the walk was getting slippery. Well, we didn't want to be so close and not visit.

Next stop was Hatcher Gardens. The Hatcher's owned 10 acres, right near downtown, and during their retirement years, planted and tended the entire 10 acres. The gardens are a must visit, next time your in Spartanburg.
