Heading off to the airport, IAH! Next Stop Atlanta, then a straight 15 hrs to Joburg, where we'll catch another plane to Gaborone! We have a room at a casino resort to relax and unwind before we head out to the white hot sands of the Kalahari. Not much to write about...
My only reason to come to Houston was to visit the NASA space center. Frankly, it was unimpressive at best.
Houston downtown looked very busy, huge and un-inviting and I felt very tired at the same time. So I decided not to do anything else in Houston. I checked into a motel close to NASA and crashed.
Tomorrow morning, I leave for the Bayou country in Louisiana. My destinations are going to be Lafayette, Avery Island, New Orleans and anywhere else that looks ...

Nach elfeinhalb Stunden Flug und mindestens dreieinhalb Spielfilmen, zwei Musikalben, gefühlten 10.000 kcal an (schlechter) Nahrungszufuhr und gut durchgefroren (daher auch ohne Schlaf - Dank an United Airlines hierfür!), sind wir Ortszeit 18:30 h endlich in Houston, Texas gelandet. Das Gepäck war sogar schneller da als die Einreiseformalitäten gedauert haben…

Cancelled flight and problem solving
The trip did not begin well. We were still driving along Mt. Diablo Blvd. towards the freeway when we received a call from United. Our 6:30pm departure was delayed until 10:45pm. We were scheduled to arrive Austin after 3am. Yoiks. We decided to continue on to the airport before, of course, sometimes they can find a new plane and leave earlier than planned. Despite the pouring rain, the delay was due to aircraft maintenance.

... to sit on the tarmac for another 45 minutes while someone sorted us out a gate. There was a plane to DC in our gate, and it had been put on indefinite hold for takeoff. There were also, apparently, at least three more planes in front of us waiting for gates. This kind of day must be an air traffic controller's nightmare.
