... considered...one bag each (plus the golf clubs) which served as a nice spill over for all the bulky items that didn't make it into the regular bags......hair dryer, shoes, life jackets et al.

KC to LAX on Southwest went well. Aubs didn't sleep much so she was pretty exhausted when we got to LAX. now we just hope to get on the plane tonight! We're on standby with staff travel. More about that in the next blog.

Last night I got the last of my supplies packed in the bags, got the bags weighed, rearranged, and packed and weighed again. I think I am at 49 and 47 lbs each on the checked bags and will top out my carry on with 40lbs and then cram whatever is left into a backpack. I will be hauling more than my weight in luggage so I hope we don't have to run through any airports! Who knew a couple of ounces here and there can make such a difference?!

I guess I should practice this blog stuff so here's an update...our team of 45 has collected almost all of our supplies, with the help of family and friends I was able to gather literally thousands of apsirin, ibuprofen, children's tylenol, vitamins,tums, and many other items to send in advance on our container that shipped back in August. The container has been in Lima for a several days now and is going through customs ...

... clothing and can launder as we go- this will be different from my usual traveling with two shoe options for each outfit :)

I've visited the Healthe Clinic numerous times so I'm vaccinated and stocked with everything for "just in case" situations from bad food to altitude sickness. Please pray for the health and safetly of our team, if we're sick we can't help those who truly need it!

... Then we went inside and he started typing on his computer. After a moment he just kind of looked at the computer funny, took the keys and went back outside and checked the odometer again. Then he looked at me and asked how long we had the car. I told him we drove it for 15 days and he just said "Wow, that's a lot of miles". We had put 8,400 miles on the car, an average of 560 per day. He shrugged it off like he didn't care and gave me a receipt.

Hi! I am really just trying to figure out this blogging thing... I leave Kansas City in two more days, and I am still preparing, these are things I continue to question: what luggage do I take, which shoes I pack, how many clothes do I need, if I don't ever use band-aids here do I really need to pack a ton for my trip, which books to I need to read in the ...

... wants to go and support the country, and hand out my tourist dollars to those that really need them. And then the other part of me says that this is supposed to be a great trip, and I don't want to waste that vacation time and hard earned dollars to see an already poor country flooded away. Anyone know of a cheap deal out there right now just waiting for me to come along and scoop up tickets to it?
