Drove
to the Hearst Castle entrance, pretty sure we had to pay to drive up to
it so we headed back to the motel to wash the car with Rich's boxers
and America's fairy liquid, didn't really make much difference! Went
back to Cambria for dinner then home to repack everything that had been
spread out through the car ready for returning it on Friday.

Hwy. 1 from Morro to Big Sur...Picture heaven.

... down Morro Strand, looking at the birds, watching the surfers, and looking for interesting shells or flotsam. Mom tends to pick up weird things, which isn't bad, except I get to carry everything because she had no pockets. The weather continues to be wonderful. Again I wandered around in shorts, although I did have to put on a sweatshirt. The tide was coming in and the waves were crashing. I watched a kayaker navigate the waves by ...

... it, but I had and Mom said no, she wasn't interested.
We drove up through Santa Barbara and moved over to Highway 1 when it became available. Again, you drive through farmland and vineyards. Lots of horses in sight. Finally we came to Morro Bay. You cannot miss it, with both the Rock that Morro Bay is named for that is a monolith, and for the large power plant with its' three tall stacks. It took a bit to find the hotel ...

... the Santa Lucia mountains along the dramatic coastline. The sea was really rough and we saw some massive waves, crashing against the rocky shoreline. It took us hours just to travel the 100 mile route, we must of stopped off about twenty times! We had lunch halfway down at the Whale Watchers Cafe, but sadly didn't spot any whales.

Just towards the end of the drive, we came across a number of cars parked alongside a beach. We decided to stop and ...

No ale... najwazniejsze, ze bak pelen.
Nastepne kroki (obroty kola) skierowalismy na plaze na krancu Los Angeles (Will Rogers State Beach), aby jeszcze przekapac sie w cieplych falach. Ponownie skakalismy z Ola przez fale, juz nie tak duze jak poprzedniego dnia. Slonce bylo jednak tak samo gorace. Wymoczeni, ruszylismy dalej droga ...

Day 187 Morro Bay

... never used, then back on the bus to descend to the information centre again. When this property was purchased by Hearst's parents, they purchased 250,000 acres and 50 miles of beachfront, it was developed by Hearst after he inherited the property at the age of 56. We headed across the road to enjoy our lunch in a park with an ocean view, near the pier built by the original Hearst family, to allow ships to unload goods and guests. We left and headed back to our home ...

What a Disaster! Days 5 & 6!

... holiday for him. The mai road into Yosemite has been closed due to the fire, and there is no power in the park. The air will also be full of smoke etc. I've read that ash from the fire is falling on cars in fresno, 50 miles away! Luckily, Tracey, the owner, has been fantastic, and understand. We'll get a full refund, so now have to find somewhere else for a week! This normally takes us weeks to plan, finding the right property, area etc. Now it all has to be ...

... been damaged in the 2004 earthquake so the basilica was, of course, closed for renovations which they really can't afford to do at the moment. The whole complex is built of adobe and suffered a lot in the quake. It is still quite a nice historic place that hasn't been as heavily restored and prettied up as Mission San Luis Obispo. From there, we went to a quirky little cemetery that Susie knew about near Cambria?? It was so unusual. It is obviously privately owned ...

Hearst Castle

After
a terrible night of fearful driving, we made it to the hotel and were
lucky to be alive, so we went for a visit of the Hearst Castle. This is
a mansion/castle built by W.R.Hearst and it just amazing. It sits on
900 acres of land, on top of a hill with stunning vies of the ocean.
The tour is very informational and the castle is beautiful inside.
Driving on to Solvang, we passed through rolling hills of ...
