after lakes more mountains and don onto flooded plain, very spectacular.

lost following the super google maps again and eventually headed for yesemeti national park

fuel was a big problem on this stretch and stayed at Redding.

... always good, but the redwoods, eh. They were big. They were tall. Not much else to say. I did see my first wild elk there, though. Splendid animals. Next stop was the Lassen Volcanic Nat. Spending the day in town. Started early with a Segway tour over the Sundial bridge. It was a 1/2 hr of fun early before the heat was on. Right now we're in a shopping mall. Spent the rest of the day in our campground. Great little pool all to ourselves here. Just have to watch for rattlers when wandering around ...

The Devastated Area had a short interpretive trail with solar-powered audio descriptions. There were some very interesting things to see including the Old Giants, huge boulders left behind by volcanic activity.
