Day 22 - Gatlingburg - Tennessee
... To give a bit of an example the performers in the first show said, and I quote, "there's two people willing to die for you, the first was God the second the American soldier". It's great that they're proud, it just wasn't for me. I preferred one of the quotes from the second show, "I'm so excited I could thread a sewing machine running", what the? The best part was going through the museum checking out Dolly's fancy frocks. ...
Day 21 - Gatlinburg - Tennessee
... called "God's World", then I saw a dozen people in t-shirts that said "I was saved by Amazing Grace". They certainly love their religion around here. But they also certainly love their food. There's quite a weight issue. I don't say this is a local issue as many of the people here are in town visiting for the weekend from elsewhere, but I'm sure the 30 odd pancake places here don't really help. What a ...
Bagel stop!
... I had a normal sandwich and I had one of the bagel things. I don’t remember exactly what I got, but it was good. After that we just went on our way.

Beautiful time of year to be visiting!
... it (their second time, after they tried it for the first time last November in Kissimmee).
We learned during our visit that it was PEAK time to see the changing leaves, and they were GORGEOUS! (See my main blog picture for a great example of the colors...was ideal at the bottom of the mountains, but as we went up, the trees had already lost their leaves...)

Boogerman Trail
Sunday morning, we woke up and packed up camp as soon as possible to get in a nice hike before heading back home. We moved our cars to the trailhead for Caldwell Fork & Boogerman Trails hiked across the first of many footbridges. Hiking on the Caldwell Fork Trail, we passed the first turn for Boogerman Trail. I had hiked this trail in March and two of the bridges were out requiring stream crossing and ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Gatlinburg
Excellent stay, loved it
We were very happy with our room. ours was on the 2 nd floor. it was very clean and spacious. Also had a small refrigerator. Very well located, central but quiet a couple of blocks back from the main street. Staff was very friendly , helpful and very informative. They also provided a voucher for the breakfast at one of the local restaurants which was coffee, milk, juice, biscuit and sausage gravy.
Clean, Comfy and Convenient!
The hotel is located very close to many shopping and entertainment areas-The Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum is easily within walking distance, so you will be very close to lots of great activities.
The room we had (#101) resembled a small apartment with a full kitchen; it had a small refrigerator, a microwave, a coffeepot, a small stove that even had a little oven! And, there were dishes provided, along with some dish soap!
There was a Jacuzzi in a small area between the kitchen and the bath opposite of the beds (there was no exhaust fan over the tub, so the whole room would be humid after you used it), and a nice electric fireplace. The fireplace didn't provide very much heat at all-it's mainly for show, but it sure made a nice atmosphere!
The beds were clean, perfectly made and MARVELOUSLY comfortable! These were some of the best motel beds I've slept in....my aching back was very appreciative!
The bathroom was the only thing we didn't like much-it was small, cramped and dark-the light above the sink was out, so all we had was the ugly, unflattering yellow ceiling light.
In an earlier review it was mentioned the motel had just undergone a renovation...it must have been an exterior only renovation, because the room's furnishings looked a bit dated-I noticed the couch didn't match the bespreads (I know this is but a small nuisance, but it ruined the living room's look...) and the bathroom's flooring and lighting needed updating.
One note about the high speed internet-the motel does offer wireless internet service, but it is not accessable from all rooms-my boyfriend spent an hour with the very helpful front desk clerk trying to figure out why his laptop would not connect from our room, but would connect in the office. So, if internet access from your room is vital, please be sure to mention that when you check in.
Our room was a bit noisy, since it faced the pool and a fairly busy street-not to mention, you could hear people walking and running up and down the halls above late into the night and early in the morning. If you got a room upstairs away from the pool area, it would be much quieter.
The staff is very friendly-this is a family owned motel, and they do their best to make sure the guests are happy-and they were happy to have us stay with them.
Overall, I do reccomend this motel-and we will be returning.
Great room for a great price!
We stayed at this hotel in June 2006. It is in a great location right behind the space needle and right down the street from Ripleys & the chair lift. It is a slight uphill walk off the parkway but I was 5 1/2 months pregnant and I didn't have any problem. The hotel is 2 seperate buildings. The front desk clerk was very nice and knew alot about the area. Our room was on the 2nd floor & was really nice. It had a 2 story vaulted ceiling and it had obviously been remodeled recently. The room, bedding, and carpeting were really clean & there was no smell in the room. Everything was in good working condition. The only things that I can say are negatives are that the parking lot & garage are small and fill quickly in the evenings. Our room also had a balcony but the view was of the back of a church and someones yard. The toilet was too close to the wall. I do think that the positives totally outweigh the negatives and I would stay here again. As a matter of fact I believe this will be our place that we stay from now on. We have stayed at several places in Gatlinburg & for the price, location, and overall qualities of the hotel it is the best we have been to.
Great Location
This hotel has been recently renovated and it was in pristine condition. The room was large and very clean. It is located just 1 block from the center of town so it was great for walking the streets of Gatlinburg. Will absolutely stay again. Oh, and the rates were great (make reservations from the Econolodge website for the best rates on the net).
NIce Bargain Hotel
Room was quiet, clean and inexpensive. Location was right off the strip. Free breakfast was a little blah. Would stay here again.
Never Got to Stay!!
I was appalled, simply appalled! I was treated like a criminal! I made a reservation for one night in a highly visited resort area expecting to have a room when I got there, but what happened was that I was stuck with NO room. The Operations Manager who was manning the front desk said my credit card had been declined and they had no more rooms. I knew my card would not be declined because I had just used it and after arguing with him for a minute he threatened to call the police on me! I was shocked at his demeanor!! I left and called my credit card people to find out that the reason my card was declined was because they input the wrong expiration date. You would think an establishment would try the card twice to be sure it was not input correctly, but I guess that never crossed their minds. I was also told that the charge had just been put through again and went through so I returned to the hotel and was told that was not true even though my credit card rep was on the phone with me at that very minute telling me it was true. Long story short, I was sent away with the worst treatment I have ever had from any hotel in the world! I went across the street to a MicroteI and had a great experience and encountered another couple at their front desk who had just had a similar experience at the Econo Lodge and were looking for alternate accommodations as well. I complained to the Econo Lodge Corp who forwarded my complaint on to the Lodge in question who sent me a letter offering me a 25% discount on my next stay... what a insult! And the letter was from the Operations Manager who was so very nasty to me in the beginning. Even though this Econo Lodge might be a nice hotel, two ladies were left on the street with no hotel room for the night due to their mistake which they refused to acknowledge. If I were you I would check, recheck and double check my reservation before and when you get to Gatlinburg. Their Operations Manager is not a nice person to deal with.
Loved it!!!!!!!
My family stayed at this hotel in May and loved every aspect of our stay. The rooms have just been remodeled and they are exceptionally clean. The location is perfect, just about 50 yards from the main strip in Gatlinburg. Also a very quiet location. I recommend this hotel to anyone going to gatlinburg.
Not to mention it is very affordable compared to other hotels in the area.
Pleased with Value
We stayed here from Sept 23-25. The room was very large and nice. There was a queen bed, king, and sleeper sofa and hot tub in the room. Unfortunately no balcony and the fireplace wasn't working. Room also smelled like smoke. But for the price, great buy! Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Great location, one block from Ripley's believe it or not!
Okay for the price
It was okay for the price. We stayed in a 2 queen room. Shower and bath were small & uncomfortable. Cleaning of rooms need to improve. We had to ask for soap and towels. They were not left on the first two days. Front desk was excellent.
Nice stay, roomy and family oriented, great price!
Our family with two teenagers stayed a few nights here in July 2005. We opted for the suite, which consisted of a huge, single room with fireplace. We had two, queen sized beds with a sofa bed. The facilities were OK, clean. We paid $89 night, with light continental breakfast. Nice pool and rockers to cool off. Nice family type place, especially for the money. Just one block off main strip, across from space needle. Very quiet and everything was within walking distance. Would stay here again.
