Destin – January 21 – 28

Well, it's about time for another update of our odyssey. It has been two weeks and a thousand kilometres since the last.

We stayed for one week in Destin with Jerry & Anne Raper, Wendy’s friends from Peterborough. They were excellent hosts. We had a king size bed with an ensuite bath. The balcony overlooked the beach.

Our trusty little Roadtrek is providing us with many challenges, most of which we solved only to create others. The water system is probably quite simple but a conundrum to we novices. I think we have it figured out now but will need to find a plumber to fix the one ...

We had intended to take a slow coastal route but opted for the quicker inland route. Heading WESTWARD on Highway 10 then back to the coast to Miramar Beach near Destin. We are definitely on our way home!! Now on Central Time only 2 more time zone changes to the West.










Our next destination was New Orleans & luckily we had the TV on that night & heard about a weather ...

... Beach has been able to retain the charm of a small town florida coast. The state park is not very large and the camp ground is about half mile from the beach and half mile from the road, so it is very quiet. The spaces are spread apart so you have privacy amidst the slash pines and brush. Clean bathroom facility and easy walk to the beach or drive either one.

After a grueling five days of driving, it was time to find a nice campground and hang out for a few days. My plan was to stay at the state park on the beach near Destin. But the polar vortex spoiled things, so I found an RV park near Pensacola instead. The temperatures were in the 30's at night, and although it was only in the 50's during the day, at least it was sunny!
