Be Prepared.

... not.

After the respective camping and running are over, we'll meet in Los Angeles to celebrate my 30th birthday before catching our flight from LAX to Bangkok.

Currently we're both recuperating from all of the dang shots we had to get for the trip, doing last minute research, attempting to fit all our stuff in small packs and wondering if JD's passport has enough room for visas and entry stamps. More to come...

The Tale of the Meet and Greet

July 17, 18, and 19 The Meet and Greet

Friday was the first day of the Meet and Greet and Karen (bless her heart) had arranged. I figured she'll never volunteer for THAT again! By the time I got there we were down to 4 others counting Karen and Pam. Pam was driving up from Tallahassee and I knew she’d be there and that Karen (bless her heart) who was driving down from Iowa would also be there. We weren’t ...

The Trip to Hodgenville

... pies and some of the best fudge ever! We got fudge and headed off for the birthplace.

Lincoln’s birthplace is in a really pretty setting. There is a large memorial building on the top of a hill –looks like a huge tomb. When you get in it, there is a small log cabin. It’s an interesting way to preserve a log cabin but seeing living quarters like that is always interesting. Very small and one ...

Labyrinths and Peonies in New Harmony

... but somehow it's stayed alive and now it's a lovely, peaceful and quite interesting tourist destination.  Paul Tillich is buried here, Richard Meier designed the very modern Visitor Center, there are two Labyrinths (the original Harmonist one, made of privet hedge; and the newer "Cathedral" one, a replica of the Labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral), and there's also the "Roofless Church" built in ...

John James Audubon State Park

We been moving along to get home and it is a long way. So I'm going to post where we spend the night and then the next day it's off on the next leg. Were on our way to North Carolina and then to Florida. Sorry no pictures. Ray and Christa

Day 1 - Through the mountains

... and all of the sudden, Beth yells out "KANAWANA" and point frantically in front of us! Well, I thought she saw a rare WV deer and slammed on the breaks. It was a sign and inside joke with Kirby HAHAHA! I am still not sure but it was a sign for the Kanawha River. We wish everyone well!! Beth and Tadd

A lazy summer afternoon

We reluctantly left this great hospitality at nine this morning (the other cyclists had left at 5:30 to do the same distance). Another good days progress was made and, to the horror of Hodge and Tom, we spent the night at a camp site at Rough River. More swimming in the river and a lazy afternoon in sun was enjoyed by all ...

Elvis spotted in KY

... Elvis lookalike and all. The second lunch was enjoyed by all given that it was not bought on our budget! We proceeded to spend the next 4 hours in a rigorous match of Four Square (the local game that Pastor Bob introduced us to). Supper was even better than lunch and we were treated to our second serving of vegetables this trip, while we exchanged stories with another ...

Recap...

... received a birthday dinner of filet minon and extras. We tooled around there for the evening, and in the morning, we headed east. 15.5 hours later it was "Indiana, our Indiana." there is little to report... Kansas is still flat. Mallory read ALL of the new Harry Potter book from the time we left CO to the time we managed to get outside Kansas City. AT least she did not miss much! Anyway, I posted a couple more pics. enjoy and thanks for reading!

Applying to Cambodia

I'm applying to a program in Cambodia for this summer :D I'll post more about it if I get accepted, but here's my application essay: Learning to Better the World Like Anne Frank, as I child, I believed that people were genuinely good and for the most part this was true in my short, sheltered life. Unfortunately, my naïveté receded as my eyes opened to the hardship and terrors experienced by millions of people around the world daily. In the depths of my ...
