After an exciting Saturday where I did not complete my packing. As a result I did not start off today until 11:30 am. the border took 5 mins waiting and interview time, the easiest border crossing I have made. Stopped in Beloit WI which is about 3 hrs from the Shrine. I traveled 831 kms todayfinally stopping @ 9:30 pm.- a long day.
... fire he went and bought up a whole bunch of the land cheap. People thought he was nuts, that Chicago would never rebuilt. He ended up owning and eventually selling, most of the land which is now the Chicago Loop. But he only lived in his palace for 6 years before he died. Now it has been turned into 6 luxury condos.
Flew into Milwaukee and caught the train to Chicago while Tracy takes the rental car to Elkhorn. Thursday - Brookfield Zoo was great as always. Dolphin show got us soaked. Weather was perfect. Friday- rented a Divvy bike downtown. $7 for the day, but you have to return it to a bike rack somewhere in town within 30 minutes. I road from the train station to buckingham fountain, along the lakefront to The Field Museum and put it in a rack there while I visited the museum. Then ...
... laying in the lake was unexpected - my response was "Grandma Irene's tree has a twin?". It turns out that there have been many storms this summer- in fact the lake is very high with the water at the shore line. The tree fell down earlier that week - what is so amazing is how the entire neighborhood comes down to see what happened, what will be done and then watch the events unfold. This event was no different... The home owner was in the lake with a chain saw sawing branches off ...
Spent the day today here in camp. Cooking, cleaning and watching a double header on tv. We had another HUGE storm again tonight. Two nights in a row there have been tornado warnings here and they had to take everyone from the tent sites and have them sit in the basement of the camp office. We watched it for hours. Storms here are definitely not like the ones we have in California. Tomorrow we head for Indiana!!! Look out cousins, here we ...
