We completely jinxed it yesterday by stating we had been lucky with the weather. Rain, rain, rain today. In fact, so much rain that, we suspect, water is coming into the car pushed up through the crack in our wind shield. It will get replaced in the coming week.
We left Gatlinburg, Tennessee this morning, and drove through the middle of ...
... he made a bunch of friends.
- The kids joined sporting teams - lacrosse, football, basketball, gymnastics, and parkour (parkour? What's that you ask?) Think Jason Bourne movies where they jump from thing to thing, and climb **** and generally are very acrobatic. If you've not seen Jason Bourne movies...well, then I can't help you.
- Lots and lots of reconnection with friends. Dinner parties, bon fires, and dinners out.
- Family dinners, ...
... Nascar Hall of Fame, and Charlotte motor speedway. Actually, it was Bec's idea to do the drive in 2 shifts and have a day in Charlotte, so I have to thank her for thinking outside the box on that one.
We managed to split the driving pretty much 50/50 today so we are both a little road weary. No photos either. Photo's of being between 2 semi trailers on the interstate don't make for good viewing. I can assure you that tomorrows photos will make up for the lack of shots today.
Another beautiful morning in the campground... and a walking tour of downtown Asheville. Then the drive across the mountains into central North Carolina on I-40 -- crossed the Eastern Continental Divide and then a six-mile very steep downhill stretch. At Hickory I turned south and drove through the small town of Maiden to ...
... Barn. They agreed with the choice of the lot, except for the part about the duck hook drives, but guess we will take the chance. Thursday night, took Mom and Aunt Alice to dinner at our favorite BarBQ restaurant, Richard's, in Salisbury. The ladies love Rummikub, so our evening ended with 2 1/2 hours of the game. Luckily, I managed to win one game. They are SO competitive! Up early Saturday morning to leave for South Haven.
