Our last couple of days here in Show Low have been spent relaxing and seeing the countryside. The babes are too little and Alle too pregnant for anything strenuous, so we've taken advantage of the being outdoors on the back porch, shopping, eating out, and sadly, checking out the situation just down the road with the San Juan fire. We ended the day with a great dinner at Charlie Clarks's Steak house. We ran into an old friend from work, Ron Smith, who is also up here with his family. ... settlement, so they agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to move. The game was played in the kitchen of Cooley's home. As the tale goes, Clark said, "If you can show low, you win." Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs (the lowest possible card) and replied, "Show low it is." As a result, the ranch became Cooley's. The poker game is memorialized in a statue that fairly epitomizes the Show Low name. A quick aside: I never did gamble. ...

Much cooler today, in the mid 80's and overcast
It only sprinkled when I was filling up the car.
Salt River Canyon is spectacular but requires driver concentration. I am glad it was a short day.
Tomorrow, I am aiming for Cortez, CO. for the weekend
    Today's lunch was forgetable ...
