Our last couple of days here in Show Low have been spent relaxing and seeing the countryside. The babes are too little and Alle too pregnant for anything strenuous, so we've taken advantage of the being outdoors on the back porch, shopping, eating out, and sadly, checking out the situation just down the road with the San Juan fire. We ended the day with a great dinner at Charlie Clarks's Steak house. We ran into an old friend from work, Ron Smith, who is also up here with his family. Ron mentioned he and his family were hiking today not far from the San Juan fire that has flared up east of Show Low. Already 2,000 acres burned. So sad for the families who live in the area and for the beautiful forest in this area.
... was filled with cholla, ocotillo and blooming Saguaro cactus, changes into high desert with the big round scrub bushes before you hit Payson, AZ and are surrounded by lots of tall pine trees. We always wait till we get to the turn off for Woods Canyon Lake on the 260 to check the outside temps. It was actually a mild 95 degrees when we left Phoenix and less than three hours later it was a wonderful 81 degrees! Yes! ...
... fresh (their slogan: "Keep it Fresh"). I've gotta say: this is by far the best, most original, most creative quesadilla I've ever tasted. Sarah, who fancies herself a quesadilla connoisseur, would love this place. Note to self: plan a road trip, non-Harley variety, that includes Jalapeños and Sarah in the same sentence. Salt River Canyon is spectacular but requires driver concentration. I am glad it was a short day.
