... dat irritant! We willen graag vertrekken, maar we liggen vast op dit eiland, dat we zo langzamerhand wel kunnen dromen! We doen een spoed-weercursus om zo straks zo goed mogelijk voorbereid de zee op te kunnen gaan. Dat helpt wel, het geeft rust om kennis van zaken te hebben. Maar we zijn ons er ook van bewust dat we nu toch echt weg moeten hier en dat er steeds maar een paar rustige dagen achter elkaar te verwachten ...

... een weekje haar auto mogen lenen! Na het eten gaat de reis naar Elburg. We hebben dan al gehoord dat oma een hele goede dag heeft en willen haar graag dezelfde dag nog bezoeken. Het doet me veel om haar weer te zien. Ze is heel mager en lijkt nog maar heel in de verte op de oma van vroeger. Maar er lijkt een glimp van herkenning over haar gezicht te trekken als ze me ziet. ... meer schade te hebben dan wij. Maar wat is er nou gebeurd? Zijn boot is gisteren tegen de avond van anker geslagen en op drift geraakt. Er was op dat moment niemand aan boord. Toen de schipper gewaarschuwd werd, had de Honey Bunny onze Netjer al op twee plekken op onzachte wijze geramd. Gewapend met camera en schadeformulier stappen wij bij schipper Paco aan boord. Wij willen schadeformulieren invullen, maar dat blijkt makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan. Paco is alleen de schipper ...

... PADI-duikcursus begonnen. Hij krijgt één les in het zwembad, omdat duiken in zee niet mogelijk is met deze swell. Hij is er superenthousiast over en weet in een paar dagen tijd de hele cursus (inclusief vrij uitgebreid theoriegedeelte) af te ronden! Op zaterdag is de zee weer iets rustiger en kunnen we alsnog naar St. Kitts vertrekken. Onze gasten zijn voor het eerst aan boord van een zeilboot en dan ook nog meteen op volle zee. Saba was like, the best place I've ever been, in my life. It's a volcanic island and we stayed at El Momo Cottages, which I would HIGHLY recommend. We walked up an old volcano in a rainforest, and met a bunch of interesting people at the cottage. Also, we walked around and picked up some black sand, then we mostly just hung out in the hammock with more Carib beer.

As stated in our introduction, we moved to St. Maarten January 1st. We have been on the island for 49 days now. This is a new record. We have been coming to the island for 7 years and our longest stay was 35 days. We have settled into our new condo (we purchased pre-contruction over 2 years ago) and it is very nice. Unfortunately we have to sell it do embark on our world traveling ...

Surviving the shortest runway in the world (after another visit to St Maartin as the Statia Saba flight was cancelled), we snorkelled (saw sharks and turtles), climbed to the top of Mount Scenery which was really muddy and walked down to town by torch light for a drink in the swinging doors pub.

Because of the long trip we arrive very late (15.00) to the island. We took a cab ($8 pp each way) to Maho beach, as I wanted to see the planes landing, but we just saw 1 and two small ones, had a swim and went back to the ship. The traffic was chaotic and took us about 35' to go there and 90' to come back. Otherwise the island seem worthy to spend much more time.
