Ecohotel Uxlabil Lake Atitlan

o sea que decidimos coger un bus hacia la capital. Allá llega nuestro

... stayed for a few minutes before she decided to jump off..and in doing so, flipped Farrah off her tube causing her to dislocate her shoulder! Kind of a big deal when you´re heading towards rapids! Thankfully she got it popped back into place and we continued on our float, but we were scared for a few seconds there. ... were taken. Like I said, we had traveled for more than 10 hours. Jaime was still pretty sick with that chest cold that I was getting over from Antigua. To top that off, their kitchen was closed for the night, so the two of us had to share a can of tuna for dinner. For the first time traveling together, we were both really stressed out and ready to cry. I mean...they didn't have a thing except for a loveseat and an oversized chair for us to sleep on ...

... single day, every tourist MUST have fun, regardless if the guides do. No guide excitement necessary.

One by one nearly the entire tour group of 20 people, without delay, rope swings into the freezing Cahabon river. next! don´t do that! next! jump when I say jump! jump! next! who´s next! rapid fire rope swinging. I lose a flip flop when trying to fight the current to shore and worry I have now been labeled ...

... it was going to be at least an hour late, the same as every other transport we´ve taken thus far. We are ready for a bus to prove us wrong! Perhaps another day. Instead we listened to some crazy American yell ¨credito¨ at the the confused tour assistant trying to hassle her for a refund, not even making sense in English, nevermind in Spanish.

9AM - The shuttle arrives (!) already packed to the brim so we scurry into the back ...

We arrived at Panajachel after a 4 hour bus ride. We had to take a water taxi over to the Village of San Pedro, which is actually on Lake Atitlan.

We bumped into Eric and Ricard again!

Lake Atitlan itself is just so breathtaking. San Pedro on the other hand is not!! On arrival in San Pedro, my first impression was Shanti Town! Also, the locals were fishing out of the water, what looked like green sludge, which looking ...

... and a lake view.

We were unimpressed with San Pedro, the views of the lake are amazing, the people are friendly enough but its too geared towards tourists and somehow along the way lost its authenticism. Its full of expat hippies offering all sorts of weird and wonderful services from massages to rebirthing through rebreathing (which just sounds painful). We are tempted by the yoga classes but instead opt for lazy ...

... mistni pary, ano skoncili jsme jednoduse receno v bordelu... ale byl v pohode a nasemu standardu postacoval na 100%. Prosli jsme se do okolnich vesnicek po pobrezi, vsude je to samy indian v tradicnich krojich -kazda vesnice cti jine bravy -jako na Morave. Na koupani tu, ale bohuzel nejsou pristupy do vody, jo holt zborcena sopka. a jedna perlicka Jarda se nam tu dokonale ztratil, vydal se sam domu, ze tady zahne a tady to projde. no tak ...

... i felt like a celebrity. i saw my agent and at first didn´t recognize him because he cut his hair......the first time in his life. he said i inspired him to make some changes in his life and he wanted to cut his hair as part of the transformation. it was awesome. one more hoorah and appreciation of memories made and paths crossed in this crazy world. perfect.

... aspect of the lake was all the garbage floating in it! It was disgusting! I think with a little more time at the lake, perhaps 3 days I could have appreciated it a bit more by hiking, doing a zipline, swimming in the hot spring, etc. As we just quickly took a boat tour of some of the small villages I did not get to fully imerse myself in this area.
