Dear Robin Tried to reply to your email the other night and it just wouldnīt accept it (I didnīt have it with me at the time) = mucked around until I got highly ****** off and tired and stamped off to bed. Then woke around midnight with the solution = just do one personal one this way. So thanks very much for your birthday wishes for Russell = I duly conveyed them on. As you heard he had a great day and doesnīt really look any older. All going so well = am thrilled he is not being affected so...

... glaciers shone like beacons. This place really is stunning in every way!

When we arrived at camp we were greeted by the most magnificent of views, we were also advised that we could bath in the river which we were told was not too cold. There were also showers available and for the first time in 5 days we could have a proper wash. I took the options of bathing in the river, I was in Peru and wanted to experience everything I could, I put on my ...

3 Miles High

... 1 hour we had our first view of the snow capped Andes. The first day of hiking was to be 7 hours, not including a few breaks and lunch. The group was pretty friendly, and came from around the world. 1 Aussie, 2 Spaniards, 1 Britt and 3 Americans, not including us. In a comforting coincidence, 4 of the trekkers were doctors! 3 had years of residency under their belt and one still in med school. That was nice to know, as medical help would be days ...

Trekking to Machu Picchu

... the tent and sleeping bag it just didnt get warm.

The second day was the hardest. We started walking at around 6.30 in the morning and by about 11am we had reached the top of the Salkantay pass. Our campground was at 3700m above sealevel and the pass was at 4600m. Although that does not seem much in height difference to some (900m), its quite a bit when you consider the overall height above sealevel where breathing becomes quite difficult under exercise.
An Amazing Day with the Willoc School Children

... of Year Five, which actually contained children of 10 and 14. The classroom had a whiteboard and was very neat. As the school is self funded and receives no government aid, they are limited on school equipment. We introduced ourselves and the children to us. They then sang us a song and Edie led our response which was "its raining, its pouring". We then gave the balls to captain of Volleyball and captain of Football. As the children hardly venture out of the village, let alone ...

We even checked out other flight options, but that meant we'd have to pay at least 170$ per ticket.
At 9:10 we went to the counter, and were told to wait while the clerks typed away on their keyboards and we were getting ready to axe murder them.
After 5 minutes of typing, and us being sure we're not getting on that plane they started frantically writing our tickets and we had to pay 25$ per person for ...

Machu Pichu

The train there takes about 2 hours costs about 50 US dollars - expensive like England I suppose, except the trains are more likely to be on time! Obviously that was far too expensive for me. Also, the Inca trail, which does look really good, is fully booked for 3 months. You have to pay lots to do it and have a permit, guide, and horses - the lot. The total cost would be about $600 - I did the Austangate ...
