... superb private gardens that you can walk through. The artist Nakajima lived here so we went to see his work mostly depicting cherry blossoms, but there were works by other artists that to our surprise included Ayers Rock (Uluru). Woke early and caught a taxi to Ueno station. JR Shinkansen to Nagano, then electric train on the Nagano dentetsuline to Yudanaka. Walked up to our accomodation - Shimaya. Mr Yumoto is very helpful. He drove us to the snow monkeys, then we walked 1.6 km through the forest to see the monkeys. They were everywhere, little babies, sitting in the hot spring, picking nits from each other and ...

... others giving their feet a welcome break. The water is really hot and it takes me a couple of tries before I can immerse my feet into the hot water. The water has strong anti-bacterial powers with superior therapeutic and spiritual qualities. Emile's left foot was giving him problems and almost immediately after the footbath his neuropathy pains were gone :-) we enjoy a coffee on an outdoor patio and walk around town. After lunch in a local noodle ...
