The storm rages on outside, and caravans that are permanent
fixtures have one by one started taking down their awnings – and one even lost
theres in the wind! I’m nice and cosy though, and have read a whole book this
afternoon with tea and biscuits!
If the storm passes tonight then Ill be off in search of the
ferry to Norway tomorrow. But only time will tell!
Tonight we are staying outside of Aalborg. We travelled to Skagen which is located at the northern tip of the Jutland peninsula. It is a major shipping centre and fishing town. During the summer it is also a tourist town. Very quaint houses - likely many are vacation rentals. Then we headed back south to Aalborg where we will stay overnight before taking the ferry to Sweden tomorrow ...
... be all ready to hit the wilds again tomorrow as we continue the last 100km or so to the very tip of Denmark, then catch a ferry across to Sweden either from Frederikshavn or Grenaa. Unfortunately in my calculation of the kms we need to complete, I didn't factor in the extra 230km from the tip of Denmark to Grenaa-which means we may have to amend our route and leave Denmark from Frederikshavn. Whatever we decide, our time in Denmark will always be fondly remembered!
transport but today was to be my first flight ever in a helicopter. This was
only a small little 5 seater but oh boy it sure was great. The pilot had it
going along like a rollercoaster ride. One minute we were doing 200kph and nest
he would point it upwards and it would simply stall and then he would spin it
around and send it downwards to gain speed once again. What a great experience
Apart from all the excitement of cranes and ...
... opening up, the proprietors placing tables containing their wares outside their shops, to try to tempt us to go in. Looking at the prices, in Danish kroner, we decided that Denmark, like the other Scandinavian countries, is very expensive compared to Britain. However, the average worker in Denmark probably earns a lot more than we do in Britain, so the prices will seem normal to them.
