... this area so friendly. Families were all speaking to us and getting their children to say "hello'. We met a lovely old lady on the bridge in Changsha who told me I was beautiful and desperately wanted to have her photo taken with us. This is an area where they see many Chinese tourists, but very few foreigner tourists.

A really fantastic day, and definitely the highlight of our holiday for me!

We went to the Chen Clan Academy this mornng, stunning architecture. This was a temple built by the Chen family members where their youngsters could come and study for their examinations. A fabulous building going 3 courtyards back. There was a lovely museum with a reconstruction of a Guangzhou house and artworks.

An excellent first day in Guangzhou, in the old Cantonese region.

... and make way to KTV. Grouped with the usual subjects, Zac, Leon, Jon, Laura and I, hit KTV with a few Asian friends. The room was split with half foreigners and half local. We danced, we sang, we drank and we had a good time. Nothing out of the ordinary took place other than Zac making friends with one of the locale girls. This made for some good discussion later, but, as I’ve said, KTV this time was same, same, but different.
