Historical Traveler Reviews Eastgate Tower New York City

I stayed here for four nights in mid-December. The rate offered was $129 for a basic studio suite and I took the upgrade option to a junior suite at $149. Large room with separate sleeping and living room areas, as well as a kitchen (full-sized refrigerator and stove with microwave, toaster, utensils, plates, pots, pans and glassware). Three closets.

Average-sized bathroom with usual amenities and multiple-setting shower head. Windows can be opened. Living area had couch, end and coffee tables, comfortable chair and plenty of lamps. There was also a dining/work table. Two people will find it very comfortable. Room was very clean and housekeepers also wash the dishes.

Minor snafu at check-in was quickly corrected by apologetic and helpful staff. Location is great -- quiet, residential neighborhood, yet you're just a two-minute walk from the bustle of 42nd Street. Very little siren/truck noise intrudes. Virtually every bus and subway transit option (uptown, downtown, cross-town) is available within a block or two. Grab a free transit map, get an unlimited seven-day Metrocard for $21 and you won't need to rely on cabs.

Kitchen is great for stocking up on drinks (Duane Reade drug store down the street had two liter bottles of Coke products for 79 cents). Also makes it possible to heat those leftovers you bring home from great restaurants. You also have a ready supply of ice because of the freezer. This set-up is perfect if you're like me and want to have breakfast BEFORE you go out and start your day.

Staff is attentive and friendly. Bellmen literally run over to 2nd Avenue to flag down cabs for you. Lobby is tiny and the elevators are small -- this used to be an apartment building. Free New York Times and Wall Street Journal in the lobby. No newsstand, but there's one right down the block. Did not sample the in-house restaurant but there are varied dining options in all price ranges right in the neighborhood, including take outs.

This hotel is part of the Affinia group (formerly Manhattan East Suite Hotels) and they're good at what they do. Rates vary according to demand but if you can get in at a price like I did, it's well worth it.

Excellent accomodations and a great location.

Excellent Customer Service

My wife and I spent 5 very satisfying nights at the Eastgate Tower from Saturday 29 November 2003. The only snag we encountered was that our suite, which had been reserved over the internet, was not ready when we arrived at around 4PM. However this was very quickly rectified when the receptionist gave us a free upgrade because of the inconvenience.

Following this our stay went absolutely perfectly. The suite we had was extremely roomy and was kept clean and tidy throughout our stay. All the staff that we came into contact with were very courteous and unimposing. On our day of departure despite checking out at around 11AM the hotel were quite happy to store our luggage until we were collected by our airport transportation. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others and it will be our first choice on our next trip to New York. Marlyn and Ian Fisher.

Words Aren't Enough...

We can't say enough about the staff at Eastgate! They went out of their way to assist us with all our needs. We had medical appointments and also had some time to sightsee. The suggestions were great and all of them "went the extra mile" for us. The suite was perfect for our family. We had the privacy needed and room to socialize in comfort.

Thanks, Eastgate- we will be seeing you again! Abby's Family

My friend and I just visited NY and stayed at the Eastgate Tower. We were very pleased with our accommodations. We had all that you could need in a room. Clean and large with a microwave, frig and stove. The bathroom was small but nice. We were on the fifth floor facing 39th street. We had no issues with noise - we did carry a small fan just in case. We walked everywhere. Only a mile from Time Square/Theatre district and only a few blocks from Grand Central Station - great food that was very reasonably priced. We walked to Rockefeller Center and Central Park. Needless to say we wore comfortable shoes. The hotel personnel were very friendly and polite. The parking garage was next door making it easy to visit the car as needed. We arrived around 3p on Friday and left around 9a on Sunday. Our parking was only $50. We came through the Lincoln Tunnel and found the hotel very easily. Leaving the city was even easier. My friend and I are already talking about our trip next year and we will stay at Eastgate Towers.

Friendly, clean and comfortable

Very friendly check-in staff left a positive first impression, not to mention a room upgrade because my reserved (smaller) room was not available. Clean and comfortable, in a very convenient location only a few blocks from Grand Central.

Above average price and service!

We stayed at this hotel a few months back and loved it! We found the doorman to be extremely helpful and friendly, and the staff was concerned that our stay was a good one. We asked for an extra pillow.

No problem! It arrived in minutes.

At one point, the doorman actually ran to the end of the block to flag a taxi for us because it was raining and we didn't have an umbrella! He came back with the taxi, a big smile and a hearty laugh. We were amazed.

The room was spacious and clean. It contained a small kitchenette that is fine for a short stay. The location is relatively quiet and safe at night.

I would definitely stay at this hotel in the future. Finding a hotel with a friendly, accommodating staff in New York City is a treasure!

Loved it here 5-10/5-14

My bestfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights. We were two 26 year old ladies who'd never been to NYC and we felt very comfortable here. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The staff offered us advice on where to go out at night for clubs etc. After going out at night we'd come back in and feel very at home. The hotel didn't have a snobbish feeling to it. As with one of the other reviewers, the staff allowed us to keep our bags at the hotel after checkout so that we could enjoy the city for a while longer on our last day with a late 5:30pm flight. As far as the room was concerned, it was awesome. We had booked a Junior suite through expedia an upgrade from the studio suite because it was on sale. When we arrived at the hotel they offered us the smaller suite because the Junior suite only had one bed. I told the staff I wanted a bigger room so they offered us a complimentary upgrade to the one bedroom suite which did come with two queen size beds along with the pull out sleeper sofa :) The rooms were huge with the sleeping area separate from the living area and dining, and the maid staff was great, always friendly and always had plenty of clean towels, made the beds, etc. I loved this place and definitely would come back here again. As far as distance from major attractions, the walking wasn't bad at all. It was a nice neighborhood and I felt very safe.

Very impressed

My boyfriend and I were coming to NY for the first time and having had a terrible experience in a hotel in Paris before, we were worried about where to stay. We literally searched hotels in NY for over a month reading these reviews to find a nice, clean place. We found it here. It wasn't expensive and the room was lovely and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was situated in a good location. The fridge and microwave in the room was very handy also! The room was spacious with a lovely view. We have already decided when we return to NY, we will definately stay here again.

Friendly Staff

This Hotel has all the ameninties of Manhattan East Hotels, Im a customer of same for 15 years an rooms are great. This HOtels has great location and very friendly and efficient staff, will keep getting back for sure.

Wonderful staff!

I was a little hesitant to book a room here, because there were not many reviews, but let me assure you I am glad we stayed here. We arrived in the morning, and even though it was too early to move into a room, they let us check in and held our luggage for us. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

We stayed in a "junior suite" which was definately big enough for two. It had a kitchenette with stove, oven, microwave, sink, fridge and coffeemaker with coffee. There were also glasses dishes, etc.

The room was a little worn around the edges, but very clean and quiet.

She got incredibly hot at one point which I thought was from being on me for far too long but I later found out that it was in fact a fever, poor little miss came down with some yucky lurgy from the flight. I got a wave of motion sickness myself too, where Adrian had to quickly grab Indy as I sat with a sick bag to my chin, but thankfully no vomit! Other than that, it was a great flight.

Walking the high line

Today was exploration day. I woke up and did some walking around, before i remembered that there is a park called the highline which i could walk. I had 2 options, walk from Kates house all the way to the end of the highline or catch the metro to the start and walk from there. I walked from 63rd to 14th along the higline, a decision that hurt me.The highline was really pretty. It is an ...
