... four transfers later on a bus with no
heat and frosted up windows, we discovered that our hostel was a mere 15 minute
walk from the train station. Needless to
say this was not the most pleasant welcome to Taishan. We may have been
slightly jaded as we entered what is considered to be one of the most sacred places
of Taoism/Confucius religion in China. After checking into the Taishan

This was a pretty good day, visited Lingyan Si (Lingyan Temple) which is a little known temple at the foot of Taishan. : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingyan_Te mple

I set out at 6.15am from my hotel and walked through the town to the base of mountain. Pretty interesting walk in itself too as I saw kids already going to school at that time and the streets were anything but deserted. Pretty typical picture of life in China.

... lot of ancient huts. We finally found ‘Wangfujing market is a known market that sell a mix of food from insects, animal parts and other foods that I would say is humanly uneatable. But the Chinese seem to eat anything that moves! So what did I try? I decided to try a snake on a stick, yes a nice fried snake on a stick… got to say I had no idea what it was going to taste like but it was a lot better than I expected.. actually was nice, not enjoyable but nice enough ...

... and little crafts shops! We found the famous Furing Jie by accident! We settled in a little restaurant which had pictures outside, but not on the menu. We asked for noodles, they said they did not serve any. Then we pointed to another table, who clearly ate noodles. Turned out, these were not called "noodles". It was only part of a meal :). So, we chose 2 items from the menu, randomly, not knowing what it was. 2 minutes later, the waitress appeared with 2 trays, ...
