Mui Ne Beach

After a busy couple of days in Ho Chi Minh City we decided to head for the beach. It was a 5 hour bus trip but it went quite quickly. Mui Ne Beach is really quiet but really lovely. We spent some time chilling on the beach and in the hotel pool, which had a jacuzzi - so I was happy! We did a sunrise trip at 4:30am! We must be mad! We were meant to be taking a jeep to see the White Sand Dunes at sunrise but our jeep broke down about 3 times there, so missed sunrise, and broke down another 3 ti...

Ah...now this is a holiday!

We arrived in Mui Ne after a 5 hour bus ride from Nha Trang.

Mui Ne is a little beach town that is beginning to boom. So many resorts are going up, it will look completely different in a few years.

We spent 3 nights here enjoying our beautiful resort, eating delicious food and not doing alot else! But we did hire our first 'manual' motorbike and checked the area out and that's about it...

We had great weather and our room over-looked the pool which over looked the beach....

Drizzle in the Dunes

What does the phrase "dry season" mean to you. Blue cloudless skies, gentle wafting breezes, endless sun? Me too. However, here in Vietnam it can mean solid grey skies, showers and even the odd downpour. Oh well - at least its warm. The last couple of days I've been in Mui Ne - a beach resort east of Siagon. Despite the weather I got a little bit of beach time in. Fortunately there was lots else to do. One day I hired a motorbike to experience the vietnamese roads for myself. This is the idea...

Vietnam Vet: Highland to Coast

Xin Chou from the east coast of Vietnam, No doubt the hangovers are well and truly cleared now and those New Years' resolutions are broken already. I forgot to make any myself! Travel more that's a good one. I'm telling ya I can't get enough of it! However the inevitable return home will soon be on the horizon... Getting away from the bikes and smog of Ho Chi Minh, I hopped on the bus up to the Southern Highlands to the cleaner, quieter city of Dalat also known as the City of Flowers and the ...

The country of a million motos

Vietnam is the ideal country to travel: start in the south and head straight up as we did, or start in north and head straight down. With such a perfectly vertical country, we had no trouble hitting all the major spots. We entered the country via long-tail boat on the Mekong Delta and spent our first night in a delta town, Chau Doc. From Chau Doc we made our way up to Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon) where we learned first hand the horrors of the Vietnam War (or AMERICAN WAR as they call it). Fr...

Can Ho Chi Minh rescue Vietnam again??

Ho Chi Minh of course was, and still is, Vietnam's legend and h**o - it was he who led then to be an independent nation. Now, in the 21st century, it is down to the city named aft** him (Ho Chi Minh City... as if you couldn't work that out yourself) to prove me wrong about Vietnam. And it's not just me. Most oth** people we've met have been full of stories of Vietnamese people and how they have tried unashamedly to fleece them. I felt quite chilled in Thailand and Laos, but h**e I am frustrat...

... lie about 100km outside HCMC. They were used by the Vietcong during the war and the group of us who had got the bus together from the city were shown around by a really really nice, and knowledgable guide, who had fought in the war himself. Basically how the was worked was that the North Vietnamese army with backing from China and Russia were trying to force Communism into the south, and so the South vietnamese army was fighting back. America then rocked up along ...

... were surprised to see us back so soon and one of them had to call the other to get back and pick us up, but soon enough we were on our way to the next stop, the fishing village harbor. It was quite a sight to drive up to the harbor, as it was filled with hundreds of traditional fishing boats of two main types. One type was very similar to other fishing boats used around Asia, but the other type was something that we had not seen elsewhere. They were ...

... As we got off the bike we were surrounded by a dozen children the oldest no more than 10 the youngest maybe 5 all trying to rent us their home made slieghs for sandboarding and each haggling down the price against the next. So we settled on two sleighs and headed up the dunes to get started. - After a minute of climbing the dunes Sarah was knackered and the little 5 year old child had to pull Sarah up the rest of the way! We sandboarded down 3 slopes ...

Well we had been told the bus would take 4 hours...it took 6 which i was pretty much expecting. It was quite a small bus and the aircon was not the best. I just led my seat back and relaxed but the others hate these buses (they moan about the heat and how long it takes). I went to sleep for most of the way. We got here about 1 and found a place to stay whcih one of the english lads recommended, right on the beach with pool and ...
