... rises quickly) and little other life was visible, but like I said slowing down was not really in our interest. Rising back into the higher elevations on the other side of the valley, the air cooled and life was a little more enjoyable. It was great to experience the temperature changes but I couldn't imagine being one of those people out on their touring bicycles heading through the valley.

We soon arrived at Zion ...
Durango, Colorado, United States mistyandmark... mountain town that has grown because of the railroad that stops here. We met some lovely people from New Mexico, Lisa and Brad, who camped next to us with their dog and 2 cats. Tomorrow we are headed North along a scenic route through the San Juan National Forest. RVing is the best.
Durango, Colorado, United States meluebke... by the time tennis started in the fall, I felt that I was in optimal shape. If any of you have heard my Dad call me "Ironwoman", that aforementioned program is where the nickname started.

The workout that I endured today felt like an entire summer's worth of Ironman fitness training.

It was a CI (Community Impact) Day but it pushed many of us to an extreme as far as fitness is concerned. We were working with Trails 2000, a non-profit ...
Durango, Colorado, United States meluebke... 6+ bus ride ahead of us but it was anything but boring. Wow. What a view! The drive from Aspen, CO to Durango CO is absolutely breathtaking! We drove up one side of a mountain and down another. I never got bored staring out the window. The colors were exquisite: tan and brown mountain sides splashed with burgendy and dotted with evergreen trees. A bright blue sky speckled with clouds provided the perfect backdrop for the majestic ...

Durango, Colorado, United States gane0444... br>The day was spectacular! Blue skies, mild temperature, cool water and miles of canyon walls. Other than an osprey, we didn't see much wildlife. The day was spent drifting, tubing, cliff jumping and, generally, hanging out.

This is a must do during the summer. But next time, we may camp on the New Mexico side as they have a larger marina and a nicer campground.

Navajo Dam, New Mexico, United States awhidden... we crossed was the Red Mountain Pass (11008 ft). The switchbacks were sharp and drop offs shear. We stopped at some fabulous water falls to take some photos. The drive was just in its infancy and the scenery was nonstop majesty. We reached Silverton and stopped for an ice cream at a little county store. This town looks like something from the early gold rush years. There is a steam engine train that takes tourists from Durango to Silverton ...
Durango, Colorado, United States becsher... the ice of all of those cars as well. If only the enthusiasm did not wane. We had an appointment in Durango at dusk and needed to get going. The forecast was not pleasant - lots of snow - and we had a way to go. But an early start would give us the best chance. We made it about 30 miles before the snow started. And boy did it snow. For about 30 minutes it came down in waves - stand still and you were covered - move, but at your peril. It was quite exciting ...
Durango, Colorado, United States cdcassNext, I was off to Durango, Colorado. It was a bit of a drive from Moab, but not too bad. I made a side trip back into Canyonlands National Park, this to the southern part of the park to see something called Newspaper Rock. It's a very large example of pictographs dating back many centuries. After that, I crossed into Colorado proper, and my first stop was Mesa Verde National Park. In this park are many examples of cliff dwellings, again dating ...
