... the harebells were plentyful this year. We then cut back down across the grassy field to the road, then followed that back to the Carpark. We stuck to one thing today: looking for the site where James Douglas fought the Battle of Skaithmuir on February 14, 1316. There are a few clues left in old writings, which have been passed on by David R. Ross, the author of the best book I know (there apparently aren't many to choose from) on James Douglas. Between those clues, his own picture of the location he believes it took place, and our GPS directing us to "Skaithmuir Toll," we set off.
