... Carribean) and the crew were professional but friendly (Big Gazza and Cheryl, helped by Gary and Tracy) and down to earth. Even though it sounded very strange hearing Christmas songs whilst staring into a cloudless blue sky, and the temperature 28°C. There is a "happy hour" from 4-5pm every day with all drinks (except hot drinks )buy one get one free, spirit measures are generous and ice is safe. The bar staff ...
Puerto Rico, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands madcaravanner... good infrastructure and the cleanliness of the place. We took a jeep 4x4 safari up into the mountains to the volcano. It was a bumpy but good time. When going up into the mountains you climb through a permanent cool cloud layer at 2,000 feet. This is caused by the cold ocean winds hitting the mountains and creating an inversion. The cloud layer area is about 1,500 vertical feet tall so that once you climb to 3,500 feet you actually drive up and above the ...
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands johnandrichOne more weekend before I fly back to the UK to spend three weeks with family. On the 19th May, my other half - the driver - motoguzziman joins me in Manchester and then on the 27th we fly to Totonto where the bike is stored. We´ll need two new tyres before we can take her anywhere - but friends are ready to help us sort that out.
Las Palmas, Spain and Canary Islands motoguzzimomma... on Monday so we don't have class but rather "Neptune Day." Yay! A good number of the girls are going to shave their heads then! A lot of girls have also gotten dreadlocks because one of the guys on board knows how to do them. The shaved head doesn't sound so appealing but the dreads.... I thought long and hard about before deciding against the idea. I'm not sure how much future job employers would dig the hair so I'm going to just keep that idea in my dreams.
Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands claudivLas Palmas was the home of Christopher Columbus before he sailed to the New World in 1492. It was an interesting place to walk around for a few hours. Beautiful wooden balconies on many of the buildings, tropical foliage and lovely sunny weather in the middle of January combined for a nice day. Amazingly, I escaped without buying a single pair of Spanish leather shoes (because my luggage was already so full). Next time I visit, I'll bring an extra suitcase to completely fill with shoes.
Las Palmas, Spain and Canary Islands ambough... chatty bars and thriving port all give off the energy of a city: Spain's seventh largest. Vegueta, the oldest quarter and declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1990, is both atmospheric and fashionable; many of the best bars and restaurants are here. At the other end of town, the sweeping arc of Playa de las Canteras is a lot cleaner than many city beaches and provides you with the tantalising ...
Las Palmas, Spain, Spain and Canary Islands katstravellater.... ok, later is now: the 30th of December just before the new year. 25th of November: One of us had a tension drop so he wasn't able to take his watch. We got since 2 days a bloody creapy weather. like a lot of wind (between 40 and 50 knuts) with a big and tough sea, just passing Gibraltar. I'm not fealing good but we have to keep going, one is already down... The last night was especially rock n' roll!! Everything is wet and ...
Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands ayack... if you don´t hear from us by Christmas send out a search party! I´m sure we´ll be fine though as Dad is very experienced (thankfully given Justin and I are still learning the ropes - excuse the pun!). We have 2 life rafts (most boats have one) and 2 emergency containers rather than the usual one - all filled with energy bars and chocolate. Justin is already planning on scoffing the chocolate as soon as we reach Grenada ...
Las Palmas, Spain and Canary Islands fiona_justin... can't be served as sushi. I was getting tired and sleepy and it was only 10:30! I needed a cortado to wake me up. Sad ... I almost didn't even make it to New Year's! We went down to the water to watch the fireworks. It didn't seem like there was any special display done by the city, but instead it was several fireworks displays done by several resorts. I realized that planning on being in Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas for ...
Maspalomas, Spain pwongI hated this holiday - the apartments were away at the top of the hill, beyond the Europa Centre and they were building a new hotel next door, we were told that it was only remedial work - total nightmare. The were drilling from early in the morning til sunset - but apart from that nothing would entice me back to the same area again!
