Arrived at Las Palmas at 10am and it was beautifully warm. We set off through the city to the lovely long beach area. There was a wide promenade are and we walked a couple of km along it and the beach. Had a cup of tea and cake watching the surfers at the break at the end of the beach near the theatre. Walked back into ...

There is a huge hotel here that has 2000 rooms but only 6 storeys high.......very sprawling with lots of gardens.
Nearly one half of the island is a UNESCO Biosphere reserve.......especially the area of the sand dunes where we were to protect the birds and fish that live there. People are not allowed in. We were impressed by this.

And so my interim verdict on this delightful isle is that it is an ideal holiday destination, but the roads would drive you mad after a while, so a lovely idyllic escape but not to live and work, unless you had a chauffeur. What sealed this judgement for me was that it ...

We docked at Gran Canaria at around 07:00 local time. Clearance was granted at around 08:00, so passengers and crew were able to go ashore shortly afterwards. We were advised that the back on board time was 17:30 local. We disembarked at around 12:45 and walked around the quayside to see for the first time, Britannia's Union Flag bow. The water was very blue and the port had a ...
