    ... seem to speak some English, but they are delighted when do don't have to - RESPECT! Yay Kate! Very warm welcomes and huge smiles seem to be the default attitude here. Although it's hot - about 30 degrees each day we were here - the city has thousands of trees and gorgeous shady squares where the temperature drops by 10 degrees and a refreshing breeze cools the happy flaneur at every turn ....oh joy and rapture ...

    ... house, with spaces for everyone (us and Cazzy and our French family) including separate bathrooms. We stayed on the ground floor and the French family took up upstairs. The house seems to be typical in style of all of the houses in this part of Portugal. The floors are all covered in tiles and there are floor mats in some places like next to our beds.     ... bottle of wine (2 euros 89!!) and have nibbles. By the time we finished drinking, eating nibbles and watching the bats and storks flying by it was getting gloomy. Nobody was really hungry so went to the sea front to watch the sunset and have an icecream.

    ... and so far, it does not disappoint. Arrived at Castro Marim which is a beautiful little town with massive hilltop fort and castles that are open during the day. WE left that for later and found a 3 km beach with glorious sands that is the start of the famous Algarve. Too windy for much lying out as we were shotblasted by the sand. Not too many swimmers either as it was suitable only for the hardy.
