... thru 4 tunnels and into Pompeii. Guided 2 hour walking tour of the ruins of Pompeii city destroyed by Mt Vesuvius eruption in Oct 79 AD. Wow in tour only covered about 20% of city as so massive. Had population of 15,000 thousand people within city walls and sea came right to city walls. The sea around 10 km away now. Amazed once again at roman technology. Visited Cameo making ...

... and eventually to the Trieste Cathedral. We first find the back wall and it seems pretty unwelcoming and we wonder if it is abandoned, but as we continue around we see tour buses and the entrance so we go in.

Oh, and the castle sitting in the mouth of a cave as the guide book had said it would. It was spectacular, and required that many photos be taken even before we got into it.

Sam and Blake lobbied hard against taking the cave tour (they have really developed no love of caves despite my best efforts), so instead we signed up ...

... go get some, David went back to their apartment. Shouldn't be too hard to find somewhere to buy a litre of milk, surely! It took me an hour and a half to find a little supermarket, I pounded the streets for what seemed like 5km in the ridiculous heat - 34 degrees. Didn't help that Google Maps twice directed me to places that didn't exist. Pharmacies passed- at least 20. Clothes shops, 100 or more. Supermarkets? 1. I only found it ...
