... The owner, Salvatore, was a real character, and insisted we eat lunch when we arrived at 4pm - Nuka had a gamberi pasta (Domenica eating prawns!!!!), Lia a Carbonara, Paolo Vongole and I had a Sicilia pasta - wonderful home cooked food with homemade bread out of Salvatore's pizza oven. We were instructed to report back for pizzas had 9.30pm, which we duly did, after lying down for a few hours to mentally ...

... We had a siesta and then headed to the town. Don bought an espresso and I had a gelato ingliese and creme caramel. We sat with our new friend Nicodemo Agostinos. He had befriended us on FB. Don showed him photos of Australia. Off we walked to the Town hall or municipio. A man coming out of an office said we needed to come back tomorrow to get info on where Don's mum and dad lived in Mammola and where Don's maternal grandmother was buried ...

We then drove in the direction of Giosica Ionica and had a cornetto at a local shop. As we ...

... a local who kindly drove us to the accommodation. A 2 1/2 hour trip plus stops was 6 hours. We were the only guests and they didn't speak English. So Don again came to the rescue with his Italian. We had dinner early and ordered no carne or peschie for me. Don had the local signature dish of Stocco fish. We ended up with 8 plates of food. I needed up wrapping 7 fritters in serviettes for lunch the next day. They think that if you are vegetarian you will starve so they overfeed ...

Don and I were a little nervous about driving in Italy. Especially not knowing where we were going and being on the wrong side of the road. I made sure I got clear directions to get us onto A16 through the streets of Salerno. Phew we made it and no one beeped! Don drove for awhile but after a stop at a roadhouse I took over the driving. It was easier on my nerves than to have sweaty palms and white knuckles with Don at the wheel lol. When Google maps tell you ...
