    ... and took the time for a walk around while there. Arriving at Mont Saint Michel is interesting. For some reason, I thought there was a village on the shore opposite the island. There isn't what is there is a giant car park, some hotels, an information centre and shuttle buses to take people to the island which is about 3kms away.     ... rooms. Several of us took the van into the nearest town, Port Louis, to see the fort and French East India museum. Another great visit.     ... inside the gate we saw a food van,.. all set up and making fresh PIZZA! Well!,.. that's dinner taken care of! Phillipe and his lovely wife Sophie were rolling Pizza dough and were more than happy to take our order,.. with the toppings we wanted,.. Pizza - Aussie style! It was very tasty,.. and couldn't be fresher! Rounded off with a glass of wine,.. and a quiet walk down to the local beach (all of 50 metres), to take in the view across the bay.     ... Begun in 708, the Abbey, fortifications and village evolved over time and was renowned for holding off the English during the Hundred Year War. Over several floors we were able to visit the refectory, cloister, church, guest hall, the great pillared crypt and a giant wheel which was used to hoist supplies up to the Abbey.
