... and then got to Memphis by about 3:30pm. Our first stop in Memphis was
Mud Island which was very interesting. This is a Mississippi River Museum. You park in
Memphis and then have the choice was walking across a fairly long bridge or taking a
monorail tram over (there is also a drive in entrance I believe). The full ticket includes
the monorail, museum and outdoor model of the Mississippi River. The museum took us
about an hour to get through and includes history ...

The next stop was Cahokia Mounds, a major center for the Native American Mississippian culture from 900 - 1500 BC. Again, due to cold, damp conditions, we didn't explore the area on foot but took some time to visit the museum. We were pleasantly surprised at what we learned, never knowing or hearing about these mounds.

... Louis and called Wingate hotel and they sent someone to pick us up (tip only) unbelievable find....motor home is just fine. Only vehicle parked out back of the hotel. We stayed the night and I took a bath, had a good night's sleep, full breakfast on the house ...all for $84 per night and no extra charge for the week of having the RV there. Just great.
... silver hard hat came over to meet our car - I had driven round the 'Road Closed' barrier naturally, because I wasn't going to be taken off Route 66 so early in a trip that had I had been planning with Harry since 2006! He was very friendly and chatty and quite loud too. He told us many snippets of information about Route 66 and said we should visit his friend in Pontiac down the road, because it was he that had done the drawings on the Route 66 maps we were using as our guide. ...
