Dreams to Sea Cavendish

Am späteren Nachmittag sind wir im Campground angekommen und wir gingen nochmals am Strand spazieren. Die Moskitos frassen uns fast auf, dabei heisst es doch immer, die seien im Juli und August am schlimmsten.
Wir fanden am Strand viele Muscheln, welche Nataschas Sammlerherz wieder höher schlagen liessen!

... for the afternoon ferry to PEI , a 75-minute crossing, upon arrival made a quick stop at the Visitor Center for maps and information and then found our way into Charlottetown through very fertile looking farmland. With a few wrong turns we found the home of Ann who despite never having met us had graciously offered to put us up for a couple of days.

Als erstes haben wir Charlottetown angeschaut. In dieser Hauptstadt leben 35'000 Einwohner. Das Stadtbild ist geprägt von vielen alten und viktorianischen Bauten. Klein, aber fein und mit ein paar wenigen Sehenswürdigkeiten.

Danach machten wir uns auf den Weg nach Cavendish. Wir fuhren dem Coastal Drive entlang, welche uns durch kleine Ortschaften brachte. Die Landschaft ist beeindruckend. Grüne Felder, durchzogen von roten Kartoffelackern und die Küste.

Wir sind am Morgen bei starkem Regen losgefahren. Die Überholmanöver der Lastwagen und Autofahrer bei dieser schlechten Sicht waren zeitweise kriminell.
Wir hatten das Glück, dass es gegen Mittag aufgehört hat zu regnen. Vor der Confederation Bridge haben wir einen kurzen Fotostopp eingelegt. Die Brücke ist 13 km lang und verbindet New Brunswick mit Prince ...

Well it's Friday, August 28, 2009 and we had a jammed packed day of activities. We tried to sleep in a little bit this morning. Nancy, the first one up, tried to take a shower, and there was no hot water. Sam, Dee and Ron were to follow without any difficulty. Ady, however, had no hot water. ... drawn wagon ride, and high tea in the 'manse' parlour. I then came back to Cavendish for fish and chips on the beach, where the setting sun cast the most beautiful glow over the whole area. My pictures don't even begin do justice to it! However, the nearby pond ensured that mosquitoes were never far away. Now, PEI mosquitoes are far from subtle - they're noisy, you can feel them when they land, and they hurt! I can completely understand now why Anne ...

... with the driver staring curiously at me. Nobody walks round here clearly. The coach came back past me 10 minutes later with about 5 elderly people on it and I muttered under my breath, thanking him for the lift. Oops - bad mood? Somewhere north of Siberia I came across a deserted toll both randomly in the middle of the road which had widened to 6 lanes. There's nowhere weirder than a place designed for millions of people, with just yourself around. I ...

... break. Subway? Here? In the woods? A quick conference with her colleague (who turned out to be Rachel Lynde), over who was doing the weaving demonstration gave us a time so I wandered off to amuse myself - taking a bottle of raspberry cordial with me. Which was LUSH. But probably full of E numbers and not quite as natural as in Anne Shirley's day. ... and tour cancelled I head into Charlottetown for a brief walk around of the area, some Cow's ice-cream, some kitty litter and cat food. I didn't spend all that long in the capitol just enough to get a feel for the place, to try some Cow's "Canada's best ice-cream" (as voted by national geographic a little while ago) and sample the local brew there. ... a musical based on the 2nd and 3rd books of the Anne of Green Gables series. I actually loved these books growing up, and enjoyed the musical, cheesiness and all. Turns out that the musical was co-written by a teacher at Wexford high school, which is in Scarborough not too far from where I grew up. My mom also knew the guy playing Gilbert.

Summerside is a sleepy, adorable, town. I really enjoyed the boardwalk; it's very tidy, lots of the stores ...
