Da Lat

One ting I forgot to mention about Nha Trang (sorry about the Irish accent) was the size of the rats. They were really Dinky. They scurried around in and out of the alleyway between our Top Class restaurant and next door. We think the reason why they were there was because the restaurants placed their rubbish in plastic bags directly into the gutter and as soon as they did that, a little old Vietnamese lady would peedle by (sorry about the Allo Allo accent) on her bike and cut through the bag...

Dalat is about 5 hours from Saigon by road. Oddly, I was the only Westerner on the bus that morning. During the trip my bag in the undercarriage of the bus had a run-in with durian. Durian is a large spikey, green shelled beast of a fruit that reeks like week-old trash when cut open. Many hotels and airlines in Asia have banned the fruit due to its strong "fragrance". Unfortunately my bus allowed it and my bag arrived in Dalat smelling like road kill. A few days of airing out on my hotel balc...

Cold and Raining like England - Horray!

Day 79 - This morning I went to sit by the beach and enjoy the morning sun and quiet atmosphere, but so many people kept coming up and harrassing me, selling postcards and offering motorcycle tours etc - forcing them in my face or sitting down next to me when I said no - it was quite infuriating and I couldn't bare it so I went back to the hotel, checked out and got a motorcycle to the bus station! The driver took me straight to the minivan heading to Dalat and the bus driver and ticket man w...

Dali in Dalat

We took a clapped out old mini-bus to the city of Dalat in the Central Highlands, a bone-shaking, kidney-juggling, teeth-rattling journey of 3 hours. The mechanics had long ago decided that it was easier to simply discard any suspension parts and simply weld the body directly to the axles. The roads were so broken up and in such a terrible condition that we were bumped around for pretty much the entire journey. It got so bad in one place that Dean decided to do some disco dancing at the back ...

Dalat - High in the Mountains Yodellayheehoo...

Hi all. Yet another 6 hour bus ride lay ahead of us as we left the hustle and bustle of HCMC and headed up through the mountain region of Vietnam to Dalat. It was a Sunday and it must be good luck to get married on Sundays in Vietnam as we saw about a dozen different weddings on the way. The restaurants had guests spilling out onto the streets drinking, and music blaring all well before 11am! The scenery started to change quite quickly once we left HCMC, there seemed to be villages the entire ...

A day at the beach is enough so we head for the Highlands of Dalat first thing in the morning. It's a twisty road with lots of hairpin bends, and by the time we reach the very alpine, colonial suburbs of this hilltop town, at least 3 of our near neighbours on the coach are puking. I didn't realise asians were more prone to motion sickness. After checking into the very nice Dreams2 hotel, we have lunch in the Peace Cafe (man) and from then on pretty much give up our freewill! The tourist "thin...

Easy Riding in Dalat

Easy Riding in Da Lat 2nd February 2007 It's an early bus ride to the small town of Dalat which primarily supplies fresh fruit and vegetables to the immediate region . It is also the most popular place for the Vietnamese to take their honeymoons as it is both cooler in temperature (due to it's elevation at just over 1500m) and its beautiful location. Dalat also became important as the French Colonialists used it for holidays and an artists retreat. The bus ride is fine but long taking around ...

5th to 8th Sept 2007 Well during the last few days I have been just relaxing in Nha Trang, either sitting on the beach or walking round the town. Loads of Italian restaurants in town, best one is Marinellas, and plenty of watering holes too. On the 6th, I booked a boat trip come booze cruise visiting 4 islands off the coast of Nha Trang. At the first island, Mun Island, we had the chance to swim in the sea and snorkel, it was good and refreshing. We then headed off to the next island and had ...

To the cool mountain city of Dalat

Tuesday morning we board a bus for a long 6 hour ride to Dalat, in the mountains to the South East of Nha Trang. It is apparently the place where many Vietnamese couples spend their honeymoon, so we are looking forward to a nice romantic setting. Along the way we stop at the usual roadside markets, snack spots, pit stops and try our hand conversing with the local people traveling with us. On arrival at Dalat, the bus delivers us to our pre-booked accommodation at DREAMS Hotel 2, (USD 18 delux...

Hallucinations on a Hillside..

It's my final night in Dalat, and I've really loved it here.

Today was the best day of my trip so far, as I went on a day trek into the Central Highlands, just me and my guide, Ro. (Phat Tyre Ventures, I highly recommend them). It was a pretty trough trek though, not for the faint hearted. The weather was beautiful, really hot at times, and the scenery was breathtaking. The route began at Tiger Waterfall and headed up and over, towards the river. I coped (just, with self-talk and swea...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Dreams Hotel Dalat

Best stay in Vietnam

from TheMohsen
This is by far the best hotel we stayed at during 4 weeks in Vietnam. There are two Dreams hotels within a 2 minute walk from one another: the original Dreams and Dreams 2. Both are run by the same family. We stayed at the original one.

The rooms are comfortable and clean, and come with TV. There is no AC, but you do not need it in Dalat.

There are 8 computers in the lobby of the hotel with free Internet access. The included breakfast is superb. After 3 weeks of being offered a choice of eggs OR cheese OR jam...and no you cannot get an extra piece of cheese, Dreams's breakfast was a feast: fresh mangoes, pineapple, watermelon, passion fruit, avocados, bananas, tomatoes, freshly squeezed passion fruit juice, bread, eggs (any style), jam, butter, cheese, peanut butter, Vegimite (for the Ausies), Marmite (for the Brits), tea, coffee, and the list goes on. And the room? $14 including all you can eat breakfast.

But that's not all. On our first day there we checked out the market (which is fantastic), and were wondering, with all that fresh produce, if there are any cooking classes in town. So we asked the owner, Mrs Dung (pronounced Zyung). She said there was nothing on offer in Dalat, but ended up cooking us dinner that night, and at our request, had us help her cook dinner the second night after taking us shopping to the market. Dinner the second night included a number of other guests from the hotel. The food was great and she refused to have us pay for it.

I told Mrs Dung that she should run cooking classes, and charge for them. With all the fresh produce in Dalat and her great cooking skills, there will be demand. So if you are interested, you should mention that to her.

Aside from the hotel and food, Dung, her husband and the other staff were always of great help with tour/activity recommendations and bookings, and with visa extensions. On the activities front, you got 10% discount on our canyonning trip booked with Phat Tire Adventures after we mentioned that we were staying at Dreams.

The only negative side is that they do not have a website to get the hotel phone number/contact details. After a massive search we found the number 063 833 748 that got us straight to Mrs Dung.

After staying at the Novatel in Dalat for two nights $125.00US due to the Holiday festival and a shortage of accomodation( we didnt book ahead)We sought out cheaper accomodation for a further 2 nights. We were recommended the Dream hotel by a touist office. After prior recommendations on other hotels in vietnam(and being somewhat ripped off) we were a little dubious! We shouldnt have been. Fantastic value for money. Terrific staff. wonderful owner and very clean comfortable accomodation. Stands up to the Novatel. Maybe not the same quality furnishings, but as clean as, and much more homely/friendly. Breakfast a feast of fresh eggs, toast, fresh fruit and more, all for $25US for 3 persons.Organised tours,( great guides) and transport (Private driver to Ho Chi Minh) all for the cost of 2 night s at the Novatel. The Dream hotel accomodated to all our needs. Highly reccomended to a vast range of travellers.

Best stay in Vietnam

from NandH4
This hotel is a gem. The breakfast alone is worth the price, since it gave us a chance to mingle with other guests. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the best part was the service.

The staff did everything from arranging transportation, confirming travel plans, ordering dinner for me, mending my mom's pants, and giving me useful advice on what to do. They really went above and beyond the call of duty. It was the level of service of a 4 star hotel with the personal touch of a smaller establishment.

I would stay here again in a minute and wish that Dreams Hotel would have branches in every city in Vietnam.

Great stay

Best Value in Dalat

from kiwislovetotravel
We stayed at Dreams Hotel for 3 nights and couldn't believe what great value for money this hotel is. Dreams just seems to do everything right - great location, close to all the tour booking offices and restaurants, clean, well-appointed rooms, free internet with not just one but six terminals and extremely friendly helpful staff and owners who speak English and French. But wait there's more! The included breakfast is amazing, a huge array of fresh tropical fruit, fresh baguettes, eggs and for all those home-sick kiwis and aussies, vegemite!

For anyone staying at Dreams, make sure you check out the Wild Sunflower restaurant for dinner one night too. It is just up the hill from the hotel.

Easy Riding at Dreams

Had a great 2 night stay at Dreams. Cheap clean rooms in a central location. A very friendly couple run the guest house who are happy to help at all times. Internet is free and breakfast included (in the kitchen downstairs).

Check out the easy riders while you're there - you won't be disappointed!

Great Stay Here

Spent 3 nights here.

Family run hotel about 5 mins walk to centre of Dalat.

Good rooms at $12 a night, breakfast and internet included.

Rooms very clean and of a good standard.

Very helpful and friendly staff and would recommend a stay here.

Excellent service and very clean

from LucyAus
We stayed at Dreams for 2 nights in mid nov. We walked in off the street after looking at a few other places. There was only one room left for 12USD per night including breakfast and internet.

The room was very clean the shower was great ( the best we had in Vietnam) and the bed was comfortable.

The owner was very friendly and put us at ease straight away. She booked us a brilliant day trip in the country. We also tried to get flights to Saigon but they were all booked up and the owner phoned the airline to shortlist us She then phone them back several times. You can't ask for better service.

The breakfast here is also extreamly good.

We would highly recomend staying at this hotel. We could not fault it at all.

Loved my stay here

from noosa_blue
Stayed here for 2 nights after it being recommended to me by other travellers in HUe. I was not disappointed. My room at front of hotel had a bathroom with spa bath - after 2 weeks of heat in Hanoi and Hue I actually enjoyed the bath!

The staff were terrific - brekkies great - you sit down in family style kitchen round huge table and help yourself to brekkie with staff cooking up your eggs the way you like it! Even had vegemite and peanut butter! for your bread, along with fruit, juice, tea/ coffee, and baguettes.

Owner organised a day tour for me at going rate ( he wasnt an easy rider but very good anyhow! a teacher by trade who now works as a guide ) and I had the best day outing - asked me what I wanted to see and then he made suggestions as well - he had excellent english and we had some interesting conversations about life in vietnam and where it may be heading . On tour we covered most dalat attractions but also outlying areas/ villages with lunch cooked up by one of the rice wine farmers

I cant really think of any real negatives - one could ask for a back room if concerned with noise from road or nearby cafes. Happy that I stayed at this hotel and Ill be booking in again next trip

Stay at aother cozy place......

from dfp
Is the slogan on their business cards, and nothing could be more true from Madame Jung and her family who all have a hand in the day to day operation of the Dreams Hotels. There are two hotels, located within 200 meters from eachother, offering 19 rooms, ranging from $10 to $20 USD per night. No high or low season here, Madame Jung keeps things simple. A plentiful made to order breakfast is included with all rooms, laundry service, motorbike rentals, free mountain bikes, in room massage, and internet access are some of the amenities. I have never experienced a more freindly staff than during our stay at the Dreams.

Madame Jung doesn't miss a detail, even noticing I was celebrating a birthday while we were there. To my pleasant surprise, she organized a bar be que for my birthday dinner and invited all the guests. This is one birthday I will cherish.

Stay at another cozy place......then call the Dreams Hotel.
