... we might pass out without water—which we couldn’t drink in public. We felt like winos drinking in an alley way with our brown bags as we looked for an empty passageway and “covered” for each other while we furtively gulped sips of water one at a time.

The Gold Souk was impressive. Shop after shop of glittering gold and diamonds. It’s a little bit overwhelming. Bargaining is welcome!

We only have about 30 kilometres to Cannakale where we board the ferry to cross to the Gallipoli Peninsula. We have booked into "Gallipoli Houses" for three nights. ... a magnificent way to finish off our holiday. The views from our table were amazing as was the procession of delicacies we enjoyed. The meal started with some dates and champagne, then a berry tart, then a small piece of roast beef and mash, then a selection of sandwiches followed by scones and a mixture of patisseries finished off with a lychee and rose sorbet (check out the pics). ... further down, Connor and Dad were whisked away by an eager shop owner who insisted on them trying the traditional get up of the Arabic males. This consisted of a long white robe and an attractive head scarf complete with black rings to stabilise. This resulted in a absolutely priceless photo of Dad fabulously posing for the camera. In this same shop I bought a pashmina and some flows pants. I was very happy with this purchase. The mood changed later on ...

... The clocks said 6 am local time when we arrived, but my watch said four. Dubai was very hazy this morning as we flew over it before landing. I noticed that some of the roads were less well defined and the edges covered with sand. Must have been a sandstorm recently. I also saw the camp sites that I visited so many weeks ago.
