... who was on the train didn't know that he'd stepped off!!
The Flåm railway is just as the descriptions say - a spectacular descent into the Flåm valley on the train. We made a stop at a large waterfall on the side of the track for 5 minutes to take photos, and while we were doing so, an old lady appeared on the rocks in front of the falls and started dancing to some haunting sounding music for us.
We then spent a small amount of time ...

Balestrand, Western Fjords, Norway ggtort... back up the road to toward the hotel. I had not realized how steep the walk down had been, and boy was I breathless by the time I made it back to the tracks and the train stop, jus tin time for the announced return of the train. Only the train did not return. The entire tour group, some 325 people, stood on the platform waiting for the train. Then some sat down, others paced, still others wandered nearby shooting photo's. It was 4 o'clock, and the ship was ...
Flam, Norway ohiolair... town and took some video at the summit. I already decided I'll be back, expensive or not. I found that because Norway is so expensive, it forces you to diet and conserve money, and I actually spent less there than in Latvia!! So it is definitely doable. I have to come back because after Balestrand I took another ferry to Fjarland, which is home to a glacier museum and the access point for the largest glacier in Europe. I saw the blue ice of Brostlebreen
Balestrand, Norway charmedlife... seeing them basically every 5 minutes. WE found out they are retired and travel all over. His wife told us before they married he hitchhiked around the world. She also mentioned he had Attention Deficit Disorder - we think she was kidding, but also kind of meant it. They have been married 43 years and he says she deserves a medal for staying with him for so long. Anyway, they have been cracking us up endlessly over the last couple of days. So the Fjords are ...
Balestrand, Norway khorsmanWe had a few more days in Stockholm, one day wandering around the old city and the harbour eating ice creams and looking at the views. Another day we borrowed Bjorn´s (Christian´s uncle) Maserati (a very cool looking red convertible) and drove around the area, visiting Vaxholm - a holiday spot for tourists and Swedes and other nearby islands, we found a great swimming area (the water was now 19 degrees according to Christian´s new watch with ...
Bergen, Norway christian-ro... up one pass after another each time gaining and losing 1000 feet of elevation. We now know why the maps note travel time in hours and not kilometers. We came over the final pass and headed to Kjerag just as a doozy of a storm struck. The wind was gusting to about 40 miles an hour with driving rain. It was blowing so hard that Jacquie was blown off of her feet. We checked out the Kjerag Rock and both of us felt a bit of vertigo looking straight down over 3000 feet to the ...
