... a restaurant based on the picture menu with bits of English, we feasted with noodles, special rice, crabs, squid, garlic roasted giant prawns (most of which we had seen swimming around a couple of minutes before)and washed it down with some yummy Tsing Tao, the good local beer. ... nonsensical that China screens travellers entering the country for illnesses, but does not do so for travellers leaving the country. Luckily, we were healthy travellers.

We boarded a hotel bus for the Holiday Inn, Zhuhai. The hotel was beautiful and modern. We were on the 7th floor overlooking the atrium. There was also a hotel-roof pool that provided beautiful views of the city below.

... and we all enjoyed fresh prawns (including Taya), special fried rice, sweet and sour pork, bream fillets and calamari.

A lovely day spent with far flung family members who made us feel really welcome and showed us a side of Hong Kong we may otherwise not have seen. A real treat.

... uneventful as it was a dreary day today so you couldn't actually see much.

Once we arrived we hopped on a bus which took us on VERY windy roads through various beach towns. Our destination - Big Buddha....and let me tell you, it is BIG! Lantau is beautiful though. It's not as commercialized as Hong Kong Island and there are some fabulous views of the Pacific. It was nice to get out of the city for some time even though we weren't ...

... to know everything about us, as if they had never had the opportunity to talk with Americans. Poor Peter was feeling so awful, all he wanted them to do was go away. We did learn some very interesting things, such as they receive no medical training at all, they aren't allowed to take a day off for being sick, oh, and they really love blond hair. One good thing they are there for is to translate for the doctor, because he certainly didn't speak any English. My friend's husband ...
